People in proximity are essential, even as an introvert, I need people around or I go stir crazy. That doesn't mean in the same room or interacting together necessarily but 70% people in proximity, 30% alone. Having plans to hang out with a friend once a day or once every two days at most is ideal. Went through a six year period of depression a few years back and truly believe people are essential to the well being of my mental and physical health; learn the most in life from my friends.
