Will humans land on Mars in the next 20 years?

It would be nice, though I'm sure everyone will just delay forever and keep getting paid for neverending "research".

Same question

No.

Will humans stop being idiots (mostly) in the next 20 years? (None of us included, of course).

Two thousand years of history says no.

Same question?

No. Agreed.

Do you like to jog?

I used to run marathons when I was in my 30's.

Same question.

No, I get tired too easily.

Do you like to take walks?

I love the idea of jogging but never really did. I don't mind walking somewhere pretty if I have a companion.
I'm usually pretty anxious being out alone.

Do you jump right in when you swim, or go into the water slowly?

I should jump right in----but I'm a coward, and I usually gradually acclimate myself to the water (though I usually do a belly flop from a standing position in the water eventually).

Did you know about autism in your childhood?

Absolutely not. I knew something was off, but I had no idea what it was or how to describe it to people.
I had stims, repetitive actions, obsessions, very poor social intelligence and a feeling of alienation that followed me like a shadow. I never made eye contact and I had so many sensory disturbances I could barely function. Since I was quiet and good and kept to myself, my parents assumed I was perfect.

The idea didn't even cross my mind until a couple of years ago.

I just got my formal papers a month ago after 15+ hours of testing and writing a 200 page memoir (188 to be exact).

Did you know?

Seeing "Rain Man" in my late teens was my first knowledge of autism. I was about 42 when it was first suggested that I might be autistic, and 44 when it was finally confirmed.

Can you make a pack of biscuits or candy last, or do you demolish them all in one go as soon as you opened them?

I knew a "classically-autistic," nonverbal boy in my childhood. But I learned the term "autism" from a public service announcement about autism when I was 9. I though, at first, that they were saying that the child rocking was an "artistic" child.

Air-conditioning, or fan?

As for the biscuits (cookies), I'm getting better at keeping the package intact.

I love air conditioning (cars, stores, etc.) because I have a hard time regulating my body temperature. At home I like fans in the day so I can adjust them and feel direct relief but I can't sleep with a fan. I don't like the air movement "touching" me and the noise is too annoying.

My goodness my answers are so longwinded. Sorry.

Yes, the stereotype of autism is very misleading. Imagine being female on top of it, and not being fascinated by dinosaurs or trains. It's very hard to get a diagnosis when you are female. One of my doctors still tells me I "just" have PTSD, which is ridiculous. I've learned to smile and ignore him on the topic.

What is your favourite kind of cookie?

I've never written a fan letter. I know a guy who constantly sends celebrities letters, though.

Have you ever met a celebrity in the street?

I flew from LA, very near Kurt Russell and his son. I wouldn't have had a clue who they were (as usual), except that the security person said "did you know that's Kurt Russell?", before I boarded.

Three cheers for American Airlines security. :(

If you had a magic wand, what would you do?
