Oh, yes! I would have hand-crafted one, including a corny sonnet with iambic pentameter and a smiley face.
I'd have been delighted to reply!

Do you hand-make (or send at all) greeting cards?

I'm not artistic in that sense....though I do send greeting cards out from time to time.

This is where a knowledge of calligraphy would have come in handy.

Would you respond more to a message written in calligraphy than one written in chicken scratch?

No. I'd prefer humble scratches and awkward words. I vote for cberg to proceed :)

Do you whistle while you work?

I can't whistle, really. I especially can't do that four-fingered whistle favored by so many New Yorkers.

Same question.

I can do the four fingered whistle. I remember learning how to regular-whistle, and how to amp it up with fingers. For some reason it was very important that I learn these skills in order to "fit in". I don't whistle frequently, although I do a lot of tongue clicks especially when I'm happy. (click click!)

Did you ever babysit children?

1. I babysat for a little boy who was psychic, and he had an entire tin of black crayons. He insisted he was cursing me to the devil and putting spells on me.

2. I babysat in a home overnight. A man appeared in the parlour with a hunting gun around midnight. He was a lodger downstairs in the house but I had no idea he was there until he walked in. The parents neglected to inform me.

3. I babysat for two children I knew, but the parents neglected to inform me there was a third child (an infant), asleep in a back room. I didn't have any inkling of the third child's existence until the parents came home and carried her out for a feeding, at which point I grinned and played along.

4. I once put a family's plastic cutting board in the oven by mistake (whilst heating a frozen pizza they left on the counter -- I thought I was supposed to put the cutting board in as well). I hid the melted cutting board in my bag and spent the evening cleaning their range so I wouldn't be embarrassed by the gaffe.

Nope...never babysat at all. It was thought that I needed to be babysat even at a relatively old age (though I never had a babysitter after age 8.

If one of these is a lie, I pick #1.

Did you get a sense of security when you were babysat for (No, I never felt "secure.")

1 was my lie. I babysat a girl with a tin of black crayons and she was psychic, but she didn't curse me :)

2, 3 and 4 are true, quite regrettably.

I'm sorry I wrote all that in the wrong thread.

I seldom had a babysitter. The one I recall is the one who destroyed my belief in Santa Claus. It was traumatic.
Prior to that incident I thought having a babysitter was fun, because it was a rare event.

Do you wish you could time travel?

I used to more than I do now. I dreamt once that I was in 1963---but as a junior high student.

Do you feel an affinity towards Sylvia Plath? I sense, in some manner, that you're a much nicer version of her. Though I sense you really don't have as much of a need to present a "poised exterior."

Interesting. Sometimes I swear you read my mind, Kortie. I was just wondering last evening if there are any WP members named "BellJar". I was thinking about Sylvia Plath. Yes, I do like her although I prefer Virginia Woolf (I associate the two). I gave up on the poised exterior quite some time ago. It was always doubted, anyhow.

Have you read any Victor Hugo?

I really should—but I haven’t.

I like people like Balzac and Flaubert.

Do you find “War and Peace” to be an epic soap opera?

I've not been inclined to read War and Peace because it sounds too political / confusing. Lol. The only Hugo I've read was Les Mis.

Are you afraid of the dark?

I like the dark. I was afraid of it last when I was 7.

Same question.

No, I too like the dark, and can't recall ever being very afraid of it. I slept with my bedroom light on when I was a kid just because I was too lazy to get up and turn it off, and having it on didn't bother me at all

I'll just pass the same question on so I feel less like I'm interrupting.

I love the dark and can navigate much like a cat. I'm more afraid of daylight, which gives me headaches but also agoraphobia.

Have you ever been stuck in a lift / elevator?

I'm not familiar with his works, so I have no opinion.

Same question.
