Yes I do! :D

I am trying to improve not only my Spanish, but also my ASL.

Same question.

I do, but it sucks when a language has 5 different types of the same word because of tenses and context and whatnot. I was trying Spanish, German, and Russian. Haven't touched Duolingo in like a year though.

What kinds of technological advancements do you want to see created within the next decade?

Teleportation would be brilliant, or time travel. I don't see either happening, though.

Do you read ingredient labels when you buy packaged food?

Only if I'm looking to see if it doesn't have a certain thing in it like Aspartame or HFCS.

Favorite breakfast food?

I do follow recipes but I frequently tweak them as well since I love to cook. I also buy frozen foods from time to time like tater tots or pizza.

Do you like spicy foods? If so, what kinds?

I love spicy foods, especially anything with hot peppers (banana peppers, scotch bonnets). I use Sriracha sauce in many dishes and generally order any food which has a spice level as "suicide" hot.

It's odd because that's my only hypo-sensory issue. I need a lot of flavour to taste anything.

I don't really like sweets because they don't have enough kick. Salty is OK.

Same question.

Sorry, I can't resist but to jump back in:

I also like spicy foods and that's exactly how it is for me too. Taste is my only sense that's not hyper sensitive. I've said for years that I like really spicy foods because eating them reminds me that I'm alive.

What outdoor temperature are you most comfortable being in?

That is verbatim what I told my autism assessment doctor about spicy food: "It reminds me I'm alive". It's the same with any of my physical stims. I need to touch myself (LMAO -- you know what I mean -- my arms and legs etc.) to know I'm alive.

I love cool weather, especially if it's grey and stormy. Sunshine and heat are anathema to me.

Same question.

I'm incredulous and reassured that I'm not the only one that thinks that about how spicy food makes me feel. I live in a northern climate and much prefer cool weather and I also love overcast days (less bright and no sunscreen needed!).

Dogs or cats?

Yes, we do seem very similar in that regard. I'm confident there are many of us out there! I was only assessed this year, so I'm still learning about the wonders of autism, myself. Have you been assessed?

For most of my life I would have said cats, but now I like both. I have a trauma support dog and we are so in love with each other (lol), I can't imagine my life without him. I'm not certain that I'd ever connect with another dog quite so much.

I currently have two cats as well as my dog, and I love them all.

Books or movies? (I'm a confirmed bibliophile. Essentially, all I do is read).

I have not been formally assessed at this point. I'm close to 50 and grapple with whether the relief of having it be "official" would be worth it at this point. Researching ASD on my own, the high scores on the free "tests" and the myriad of characteristics I've had since childhood that seem to be "textbook" make me convinced that I'm on the spectrum.

Cats are fascinating and I've lived with them in years past, but I'm a dog person. Our dog will never be able to jump up on our kitchen counters and start chewing on the food I'm going to prepare for supper if I leave the room for a few minutes.... 8O

I love books. As a child I was transfixed by our set of encyclopedias. I have that same set in my house now and still refer it it. I'm not a fast reader and any background distraction and I'm having to reread paragraphs multiple times for things to really sink in.

Right now I'm working my way through First Principles of Verse by Robert Hillyer 1962.

I don't want to hog this thread so anyone else break in anytime!

What are your top three favorite classic/epic novels?

My top three classic novels:

Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë
Villette, Charlotte Brontë
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë

I also enjoy George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, WM Thackeray and AS Byatt.

People told me not to "bother" being assessed for the reasons you've given above, but I went ahead and I'm very pleased that I did. I had nearly 20 hours of testing and got a 15 page report which explains more about me than I ever imagined. I understand myself and my life so much better now.

Don't worry about hogging the thread. That happens sometimes!

New question: Do you have a lot of routines / rituals about the way you do things?

I can't resist sharing my top three (or at least some of my favorite) novels in no particular order:

Crime and Punishment - Dostoyevsky
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter - Carson McCullers
A Portrait Of The Artist As a Young Man - James Joyce

Also the collected works of Flannery O'Connor

Definitely on the routines/rituals.

I take a walk going on the same route M-F and have for years. On that walk I must touch a pink granite rock next to the sidewalk that a quirky octogenarian put on a pedestal next to his house with a faux historical plaque dubbing the rock "petus rockus". I also must touch an interesting knot on a gnarled tree further along the route. I wear earplugs on the walk.

Things that come up that are outside my normal daily life routines can be draining and I don't feel myself until I can get back to my routines.

Nightowl or morning person?

Nightowl. Used to be worse when I was younger.

Same q.
