It was only my second day of work at the cafe yesterday, but i am so tired.
I worked 7 hours and 30 minutes yesterday, and slept for 14 hours afterwards. I awoke at 4:00pm, just in time to see the setting sun.
Coworkers are nice enough, but i’m not really being trained. When i need help i ask. When i need guidance putting in an order on the ipad, a coworker will come over and just fully take over as I stand on the side awkwardly. I just need them to tell me what i need to do, not do the whole thing for me. Same with drinks and smoothies. They do it for me, they don’t guide me as i myself do it.
Coworkers are a bit unsanitary, one of the sinks has a leak and has ruined the wooden cabinet it sits above. Also nobody i’ve seen really wipes down the sandwich prep boards. Eugh
There isn’t a break room/hidden storage room i can rest in on break, i just sit on the one chair at a table in the back of the kitchen, the chair is a tall stool, so not very restful.
Its weird working in a kitchen as a “trainee” when i have 10+ years of cooking experience and my coworkers have been cooking for much fewer years than i, but have more work experience.
Maybe retail would be better? Or just working at a more professional kitchen. I want to earn money, it’s just so tiresome so far, and i’ve only worked 14 hours this week.
I’m telling myself “just tough it out for a bit, maybe it’ll get better”
