I had a lot of anxiety and tension today attending the parent’s classes for speech therapy for our kids
Everyone’s children were video taped and they were all treating it like a tragedy that their 2 yr olds were not speaking fully formed words or losing focus once in awhile
And getting all depressed over what was relatively normal behaviour
I was thinking about my 5 yr old non verbal highly delayed son in comparison —for whom progress was recently learning to clap.
I was pleasant and smiling but my jaw was involuntarily clenched Throughout the seminar
Everything the therapists were saying (eg ‘it’s ok if he only points’) were far more than my 5 yr old has been able to achieve
And all the parents were discussing during break and worried about what I would be ecstatic about (eg I noticed in some of their videos their kids we’re eating whereas my kid does not eat except once in a while n even then he can barely chew)
My jaw is still clenched in tension I cannot stop it
Everyone learns differently. There are many different forms of communication. A lot of people just don't understand and judge accidentally. They cannot always accept differences despite their positive efforts. All that matters is that you and your family are happy and progressing at your pace. Remember square breathing and jaw resistance exercises
