Butterfly on butterfly weed. The old timers call this plant pleurisy root and used it for medicine.
Don't try and dig one up in the wild, they have a long tap root and do not transplant well. They can be purchased from garden centers and are great drought resistant plants, and the butterflies love them.

Prickly Pear cactus, you can eat the fruit after you remove the spines and the pads are also edible, nopalitos!

MissLizard, thanks for the pics. (I can't seem to view the first one though?). Prickly pear is popular around here too but I never realised the pads were edible; maybe they don't know that around here!

Not sure why you can't see the first one, they are both on photo bucket, weird.
Loved the pigs and orchids,I've never tried to grow orchids.Intimidated I guess.
But I do have other cacti and yuccas I'm growing.I love zone pushing.I have a hardy banana and a citrus that is hardy here in USA zone 7,they bumped us up a zone, global warming I guess.I hope to get more figs, yum!! !

Hi moomin, found it during a search for images in numbers, and loved its colorful simplicity. Unfortunately I didn't get the artist's name. But its such a cheerful, childlike image that I just liked it.
