I wonder if it's a spectrum self awareness thing ( self esteem ? confidence ? ) , my GF said I don't see how big I am.
Could be a sensory thing with proprioception, maybe. My favourite trick is stepping over puddles. I either stride straight across without thinking about it... or I look and think - and then end up stuck there trying to work out whether I can reach the other side or not. I sometimes do a little "dance" where I hover on one leg about to stride, then have doubts again and hover on the other leg for a bit. Nine times out of ten, I decide eventually to go for it (ex-caver, so I can deal with wet feet!) - and I could have stepped three or four times as far, no problem. Same with my caving - I was useless at deciding which crevices I would be able to fit through and forever getting stuck. I've had to buy so many pints in the pub because I've reached out for my drink, forgotten how long my arms are, and left someone drenched in stale beer for the night.
Serves me right for trying to engage my brain instead of letting the auto-pilot handle it!
