Why do we even need emotions?

Excellent question, Raleigh I can understand hunger, fatigue, alarm and I suppose sex drive for procreation, but why the others?

Do you ever wonder how conscripted soldiers with ASD managed in war? I can't stop imagining that. It would be awful for anyone but imagine people like us in WW2?

(Raleigh's question): I don't know. Something to do with being human? I have them, but can't deal with them.

(Isabella's question): Never really thought about that, having grown up in a 'peaceful' era. I think I'd probably have refused to join up. So would most people these days though (probably).

Do you think one ought to be able to make jokes about any subject?

I know a good joke about that...


Do you know a lot of jokes?

Yes, but I'd struggle to tell one, or even remember one, if put on the spot.

How do you react to 'being put on the spot'?

I freeze, become rigid and monosyllabic, and wish that the spot will swallow me whole. People see me as rude or cold in those situations but in reality I'm just terrified.

With friends I can usually make a good comeback
In front of a lot of people I would probably turn red and stammer

What do you have nostalgia for?

(Isabella): Yes, same. I can come over as very icy or alternatively disconcerted in such situations - eg someone unexpectedly knocking at my door, telephoning, stopping me in the street, etc.

(Raleigh): My schooldays, sometimes.

What did you do/are you doing this afternoon?

I haven't decided on that yet.

- gravel roads and swimming with rubber water wings
- my first house (the one my father built)
- our family boats which were cabin cruisers; the smell of boat exhaust (weird, I know), and the glug glug sound of the engine when we reversed out of the slip
- my play fort which was made of sheets hanging from the ceiling
- all the 70s music (Rod Stewart, Elton, S&G)
- Christmas from the 70s
- Believing in Santa / Father Christmas
- shag rugs
- primary school -- the rooms with yellow carpet and bean bag chairs
- the smell of school libraries
- my canopy bed that my father built
- my stuffed leopard Leonard and my stuffed mouse, Twitch
