There's such thing as a form of role reversals in parent and child relationship.

Usually if the parent is the one needed caring or in need of structure if they themselves cannot bring it to their children, and then it's the children would start seeking order to themselves and onto their parents.

OR; because words and wording are crap to me --

Said children, are, in their nature as a human, would try and test borders themselves, including by being sneaky.
And the parent's reaction, from their lax way of doing things becomes firmer, more invasive and anxiously restricting because of it.

My parents had very few rules beyond the basics. All that meant was that my sneakiness was transferred to those necessary rules and I did things like create a hidden cache of candy and make annoying noises just to drive them crazy.

That makes sense, if there's only a limited context in which there's an incentive for being sneaky, one will most likely only be sneaky in those contexts, rather than more broadly.

I howl with laughter at my neighbour sometimes
He just says exactly what he thinks and with no tact whatsoever
He's completely unfiltered
The amount of times I've heard his wife apologising to people for him is unbelievable

I wouldn't flipping apologise for him

Nah.

The former is basically good self control and courtesy. Likely one out obligation and morality, it can be itself a mask.
At it's authentic peak, one born from respect and well expressed ethic.
An unkind person can be decent. Being decent is occasionally one agreed upon under social contract.

The latter is caring and patience, one that's not conditional or transactional. It doesn't necessarily mean gentle. The authentic peak would be one born from love and compassion.
It's a personality trait, one cultivated closer from one's own core.
One can be so kind, but not exactly decent or culture-norm wise well-aligned, even towards the concept of right or wrong.

That's what I was thinking because someone said I was kind but I'm just trying to be a decent human being

I don't particularly consider myself as kind but I don't suppose that's for me to judge by myself really
