mosquitoes do not "feed" on blood. they are not true parasites. mosquitoes feed on nectar, but they need a protein contained in blood to complete the sequence that makes their eggs viable.

A passenger jet is pressurised by pumping in outside air that over compensates the inherent' leakiness' of the design.

In other words the plane leaks like a sieve, but air is forced/rammed in from the forward movement through the atmosphere and this is controlled by valves.

Outside air is about @ 4 psi @ 30k feet; inside cabin is held @ 8 psi of controlled pressurisation.( Normal atmosphere is a little under 15 @ sea level.)

This is enough to sustain life without creating undue stress on the cabin structure, as if it was held at a sea level/ground pressure @ ( 14.7 psi).

The part around 26:40 is hilarious. Stephen has a fake glass that he smashes on his head, and Arthur Smith, thinking his was fake too, threw his at Alan, and Stephen screamed "No! Yours is real!" and the look on Arthur's face is priceless.

Whoa, Dara O Briain is fluent in Irish Gaelic, that makes me like him even more. :O Have you seen Three Men in a Boat? It sounds interesting, I might try to find it somewhere to watch.

QI Fact of the Day

A swarm of gnats is called a "ghost".

QI Quote of the Day

"Human knowledge will be erased from the world's archives before we possess the last word that a gnat has to say to us."
JEAN HENRI FABRE (1823-1915) French entomolog

there you go. what is interesting about that? it is that the rest of universal history will be affected by the circumstance of the grain of sand being blown a small distance in a mild breeze.

Reminded me of William Blake (Auguries of Innocence):
Quote:
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

Quote:

Everything.

The Stonehenge isn't even a henge... that's freakin' ridiculous! The word "henge" comes from Stonehenge... Why would the take that word from it, then change the meaning so the original isn't included? :P
