The Roman year started on March the 1th, to honour the warrior god Mars. That's the reason why the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12h months in our calendar are called September, October, November and December; they were the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th months in Rome. The Romans elected the consuls, the heads of state that they had, before Julius Caesar made Rome a monarchy and in principle dictatorship, on the 1th of January, though, and that's the reason why that's New Years Day in the modern calendar.

The Swedish church was officially part of the state from the year 1000, when King Erik the Victorious was baptized in Husaby, until the year 2000, when the church became independent. However, already many decades ago it got legal to not be a member of the church and not paying church tax, which originally was 10% of a person's income, to about 1-2% or something today.

No, Black Bart never killed anyone, except for in the Civil war. He never fired a shot during his robberies as far as I know, and he was a very polite thief.

That would probably been have Billy the Kid or some other really crazy guy. Black Bart wasn't crazy, he was just fanatic to get his rights.

Maybe, instead of Litigious I would have called me "AS Vigilante"? I'm more a fanatic of rights than litigious, but English lacks the proper translation for that Swedish word they use for people who fight for their rights.

The Battle of Tarawa during WWII was a turning point in the Pacific. The Japanese regarded it as being unable to be taken by American troops. Heavily re-inforced with hidden pill-boxes, it was a bloody battle over a tiny island. Japanese and Korean casualties were about 4,690 killed in action. Only 1 Japanese officer, 16 enlisted and 129 Koreans were alive at the end of the battle. About 1,000 American troops were killed in action, and a further 2,200 wounded during the 4 day battle. The reason we needed it? It had a runway that we could use for airstrikes against the nest island in the chain that would lead to Japan.

A poker hand containing aces and eights is known as "the dead man's hand", because it was the hand held by Wild Bill Hicock when he got shot in the back.

Ibuprofen is a better painkiller for tooth ache than aspirin or paracetamol, but it's not known why that is.
