Yes there is a Leicester accent. A lot of the immigrants' kids pick it up as well as the indigenous folks. They pronounce the word Leicester as "leicestoh."

I noticed when in Bradford that quite a few of the locals said 'Bratford'.

I love the way they say "Lestoh"

I've got quite a good ear for accents and I can do them quite well as well but the Leicester accent has me beat

It's like a perfect mashup

Yes there are subtle variations around the county. We had a kid at school who originally came from Barnsley and we used to take the mickey out of his accent. "Baarnsleh" we used to say. Barnsley wasn't as rich as Sheffield so we made out he was a down-market little pauper while we were sophisticated. All in good fun of course. If you didn't tease mercilessly they thought you were a little snot and you'd be finished socially. If only grown-ups were like that. Hang on, some of us are.

I watched one of those Ken Loach plays a few years back. It was set in the Barnsley area, and the locals were still saying 'tha' and 'thee' for 'you', even the teenagers! This was in the early 1980s!! !

I can fake accents when I'm singing. I try to give them a country song and an Irish song, and I sound like 2 different people. At least one punter thought that was clever.

Don't get me started on Ken Loach. He's a genius and a socialist.

I'll have to look up the psychology behind teasing one day. I mean we all do it, but why oh why do we do it? I don't know. I think I did it to make sure they knew I wasn't a snot, but I enjoyed it.

Current Labour establishment don't like him though - they've kicked him out of the party.

It figures. He'd be much too socialist for Starmer.

"I, Daniel Blake" was spot on, I reckon.

He's done loads of good 'uns. Trouble is a lot of them were done a long time ago and the copies are often blurred. Somebody ought to remaster them like they did with Laurel and Hardy and Star Trek.

I hate smartphones. Little rectangles of misery, those things are.

I got a bit Yoda-esque there, didn't I?

But seriously, do younger people really think gen x lived in the Middle Ages because we grew up without smart phones? Do they really see life without them similar to living without electricity or something?
