When I was a lad they had a rule that you couldn't take your own food in. I think they just wanted to sell you junk food. I suppose they're more desperate for punters now, so they can't push folks around like they used to. I'd still want to sneak the taters in though, just in case.

Yeah it used to be like that here but since the new cinema and all it's bars and stuff it's like a free for all
We go to the pound shop before we go and get a load of pop and sweets

Film distributors take between 60 and 80% of each ticket sale so the only way cinemas have to make a profit is to sell snacks. That's why they're overpriced and why cinemas don't like you taking in your own food.

The cinema I work in is all staffed by volunteers. No way they'd survive in a little town like mine if they had to pay wages.

It's sad really.

The last time I went to the cinema was about 20 years ago. I used to go about once or twice a month to Cineworld in Wood Green Shopping City in North London. It was only about £3 to get in, and I used to raid the Pic 'n' Mix at the Woolworth's next door beforehand, though you weren't supposed to bring your own food in.

I don't think I'd be tempted to watch any modern films, as I get the impression that they're all rubbish (like modern TV), and the price of entertainment seems to have gone through the roof in the last few years.

I found those loud crashing and whooshing sound effects that were coming in twenty-odd years ago pretty unbearable.

^^ I agree, the cinema is a good experience. It can make a bad or average movie watchable for some people where such movies wouldn't otherwise be enjoyed on a smaller scale at home or wherever.

A good movie can be enhanced by the cinema experience.

I used to really like playing FPS games with the sound up loud enough you'd feel the explosions in your chest. If it isn't viscerally overwhelming it's a lot less realistic/fun.

The same can be true for music.

Blasting some tunes is often better than having them on low or at a moderate volume.

Yeah I like to hear the sound all around me like I'm there
