The other night I saw a clip from an old Chinese cartoon that is supposedly for kids, but the clip showed a lot of blood and gore. There was a lot of disclaimers at the beginning warning viewers, and I thought at first they were just exaggerating or making too big of a deal. Until I actually watched it.
The clip was taken from a cartoon called (In English) Dirty King Adventures. It starts off with a live-action little girl singing and it looks like it will be a fun and lighthearted kid's show. It's about a young boy who is nicknamed Dirty King or the King of Dirt, because he is very messy and doesn't practice good hygiene. In fact, he thinks food that has gotten dirty makes it safe to eat. He then gets tricked by a rat and taken to the Rat King, who wants to use him as a test subject for a bacterial weapon. I think the king was plotting to release a new Black Death to kill all humans and take over the world. Anyway...
In the clip the boy gets captured by the rat who shrank him earlier, who wraps his tail around him like a rope. Behind them are these two creatures that I guess are rats but they're big, fat, bright yellow, and have long pointy, saw-edged beaks like birds or lizards. The boy gets one of his arms free and then he takes out a knife, and chops of the rat's tail. The rat screams and blood spurts out of the tail stub as the boy escapes. But that wasn't the really gory part...
The two yellow rat bird creature guards chase after the boy, but he jumps into a tunnel they end up both crashing into each other. One of them, accidentally shoves his beak right though the other ones open mouth and stabs him though his neck. As he dies the other creature snaps off the other creatures head. And there is plenty of blood. And then the boy looks back out from the tunnel and even's he's pretty shocked by how horribly they were killed. Then the rat whose tail was chopped off shows up, and when he sees the dead, bloody bodies still moving he's pretty terrified and runs away.
I actually found more videos of the cartoon and saw that they later censored it by not showing the deaths and bodies of the two rat guards. Apparently the cartoon was made in China in the 70s or 80s when they had no problems with showing such things to kids. But it was very disturbing even for a lot of adults.
