I feel like it is underdiagnosed.....primarily because WP has a virtually 1 to 1 male female....whereas the incidence is said to be 4 males to 1 female within the general US population.

Same question.

It's cute that you have no question marks today lol . :?: :?: :?: :?: (you can use these?)

It's a well-known fact that autism is under-diagnosed in women. They're usually diagnosed with misogynist labels such as schizophrenia, BPD, or DID. Trauma complicates the diagnosis even further. I was lucky to have the resource I did, because the waiting list can be years especially for women who have a hard time being referred at all.

I'm a right-brained thinker so Apple products have always made more sense to me. I don't know why anyone would think it's a status symbol to use a product that they like. My iphone is nearly eight years old, and I certainly don't consider it fancy.

People can waste money upgrading either product but I don't do that. I do have Microsoft Office for Mac on my computer though -- I do like the Word program.

(I just saw your autism answer, LLW -- and I agree). Where I am, psychiatrists don't do ASD assessments since they work with mental illness and ASD isn't a mental illness. The primary diagnosticians are neuropsychiatrists or Ph.D Psychologists -- but regardless it's still important to find someone skilled in female diagnosis.

Do you think Dr. Frankenstein was autistic?

Probably. Everyone is a lil autistic they say. He could be on the spectrum.

Do you have any abilities such as a very good memory etc due to autism?

I believe he could have been Aspergian. But I am more inclined to believe that he lived a sheltered existence with nary any concerns, then felt a desire for fame. He bit off more than he can chew, so to speak.

I dont have any special talents.

Abilities:
I notice patterns and small details, and I have a killer long term memory. I have a sixth sense and very refined synaesthesia.

I think in dimensions rather than a linear line. I don't know what it's like to be any different, though.

I didn't even know I had synaesthesia until Psych 100 when I read about it. I was like "Huh?", because I thought everyone saw words, letters and numbers in colours.

Synaesthesia isn't a definite collaborate of ASD but it is very common, as is the psychic "sensing" phenomenon.

Non-abilities:
I'm very poor at identifying my feelings, understanding nuance, reading people's expressions (lowest score ever recorded when I was tested), and making inferences. I also bombed the test about attending to two thoughts at once (I forget what it's called -- similar to switching focus).

I dont do too well in multitasking.

I have fair to poor spatial awareness.

I take an inordinately long time, say, to clean up a kitchen.

I do pretty well in adding-subtracting up to three digit numbers in my head.

I do pretty well in researching topics.

I usually know a song before I hear the fifth note of the song.

Same question.

Even though I have tinnitus, I have extremely good hearing. I can hear things that my wife and kids can not and very high frequencies as well. Hyper-sensitivity in that area can be good as well as challenging.

Hyper-focus on things that interest me can also be a strength.

I wish I was good at math. I actually was very good at it until 4th grade. Our 4th grade teacher said: "Tomorrow, we're going to start something new in math that you've never done before and it will be the hardest thing you'll ever learn in math..........STORY PROBLEMS! I took her literally and was awake worrying about it most of the night. I was bad at math after that.

I feel music.

I think I'm good at recognizing patterns. I printed off a puzzle maze from a learning website for our kids. It picked the most difficult level and the maze was very detailed. I looked at it and found the answer within a few seconds.

Is there anything you'd like to do in public related to your ASD that you refrain from doing? If so, what is it and why do you refrain?

Given my love of and obsession with literature, some people are shocked to know how well I did in Maths. I see numbers in colour so it was easy to do arithmetic, or to visualise and memorise formulae. I kind of have a photographic recall in that regard. I won a prize for doing a written, 100 question multiplication test in one minute flat. (e.g., 4 x 4, not long multiplication). I was able to write all 100 answers in 60 seconds.

All the men in my family have been engineers, so I suppose I come by it honestly but it's also because of my synaesthesia.

My spatial sense (e.g., shape puzzles) and visual learning skills are terrible. I scored in the extremely poor categories.

This is interesting. Now I want to dig out my ASD test results.

Hi Magna!
I'll post this and then answer yours!

I am a practical person and Windows is just incredibly easy to use and to modify, especially when almost all companies develop for it. If the processor, motherboard or graphics card of a windows PC dies, you just buy a new one and put it in, with Apple, good look with that, you can throw it away. Graphics cards can't even be swapped so real gaming on an Apple is a no go.

People often use Apple as a status symbol. I find it silly as well. Have nothing against the product but just the arrogance of the company and how they advertise. They rub me wrong. It's an elitist and arrogant company and the people that use it are often just as bad. They look down on Windows users like they are peasants which is very sad behavior.

There is even a topic on the forum about it.

No.

I dont really think too much about the Windows Apple distinctions.

Do you prefer fog, or mist without fog :?:

Thanks, Isabella, for the suggestion about question marks. I should have known that lol

Hi Magna!
I have tinnitus and hyperacusis as well so I feel your pain there. It's seldom an asset for me. I also feel music and I love that we tend to listen to the same bands :) That "story problem" incident is really sad. Poor you :( It's funny how the mind works to scare us, isn't it?

Similar to your aversion to word problems, I can't do syllogisms to save my life. The questions like "All monsters are blue. All blue things..." when you have to sort out logic. My brain totally shuts down and I can't even try.

I can answer your ASD in public question by thinking back prior to my trauma. Otherwise, it's hard to disentangle my trauma response to my ASD response. Hmm... let's think. I suppose that I would have wanted to have friends, especially female friends. I was always terrified of girls because I didn't fit in and they mocked me. At least with boys I wasn't expected to follow the herd. I also wish I could have had a wider range of interests, or demonstrated more flexibility in my routines. I ruined many good holiday trips by shutting down because of the change in routine or environment.

PS Mist is lovely -- like the lavender mist during ROCKET MAN
but I also love fog

Mostly young people are the ones who seem to show this behavior, for some reason.

I like Silent Hill mist

I have a bunch of these spread out at home, work and in the car.

I would love to wear them in all their ugliness out and about in public. I don't. Too self conscious unfortunately.

What is your favorite meal?

Thanks for the Windows info. I guess I'm lucky in that I had the same laptop for 9 years and never got a virus or needed a repair of any sort until the battery just started waning, and it got slow with updates. I finally got a new MacBook a few weeks ago. I agree though, I suppose the Apple propaganda can be overt. I don't watch TV very much so I wouldn't know but you're right -- they do seem to push the product for young people. I'm not 'young people' but I missed the whole decade of the 2000s in a practical sense, and by the time I got my first laptop in 09 it was Mac. I liked its design programs.
