Theoretically, I could write books about each universe in my little literary cosmos for the rest of my life, since I haven't put a limit on how many universes there are in it.
So far there's only two universes, and the total number of books I have written so far are twelve [well, technically nine, but three more are on the way].

I think I can get this book done and typed out in 18 days, and then do the next two during September and October, and then do Book 4 for November's National Novel Writing Month.

I'm having one of those rare nights that I'm able to stay on WP without losing connection.

I'm having one of those rare moment, where I've actually stayed with an avatar without changing real quickly.

At least I'm almost done the book I'm working on. Then to type it out, which could take nine days or eighteen, depending on how hard I work.

However, I think the character of Cipher is way too dark for what's supposed to be a funny book. *sigh* I don't know how to fix it.

The character in question is a nihilist who ruined hundreds of peoples' lives in the history of the world my new series takes place in, and neither I nor the characters know how to respond to it, or even how to fix it. He forced them to believe what he believed, and punished them if they did not, and because he was the type of being who did not require substance, most of the people starved to death.

That makes Cipher the only character in any of my books to deliberately harm another. Hrgh. Somehow the implications of all of his backstory didn't occur to me until now.

I have no idea how this got so bleak, but it did.

It's so frustrating--every time I try to make a fun, comedic story, it starts sliding into darker territory.

I've had this problem for years, and I don't know what to do about it.

There must be some way to fix this. *super determined*

I don't think stories have to either be funny and light-hearted or deal with serious issues. They can be both.

^I know that, but I don't know if I'm skilled enough to make it work.

Keep writing and your skills may get better. And an editor might be able to tell you if it works or not and help you fix it if it doesn't.

I'm nervous about editors. So far I haven't even found a publishing company yet.

Perhaps a wee rest and reading The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett would help you some here? I know you want to read the Tiffany Aching series too. He has a way of combining not only amusing with darkness but also makes it suitable for a younger audience.

I supposed I am suggesting getting more from the masters of the written word?
