How about you try and be respectful to innocent people. What has a gay person done to you than to mock them by calling them stupid?

The word stupid was not used in my last post, or any post on this thread actually.

Actually yes it was. When people use the term "gay" by saying "thats gay" they are using the term as stupid! So that means you care calling gay people stupid!

Every single time you post make me think more and more you are a troll.

ahem...I just want to point out that... Xenu? If you weren't protesting so loudly, I wouldn't have felt the need to say this...but you actually called some innocent Christians morons on one of your threads and I believe you were mocking them too...perhaps they did something to provoke you?

We all have a go at people sometimes...it's human nature... and that's all I'm saying now...:silent:

Keep in mind that a lot of male homophobes like lesbians, so they are prone to being left out. Not to mention that gay actually can and has been used by lesbians to describe themselves

Guacamole, Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwich they taiste good if you never tried one.

I used to be in this group online that was run by a couple of "macho" gay men. They where frequently foul and hateful against women particularly lesbians. I didn't understand it.

As a lesbian, I do not find this thread offensive. In fact, I am happy to see someone propose that people shouldn't say homophobic things.

Language: I think that the phrase "that's so gay" is offensive, but it doesn't infuriate me. I associate it with frat boys and the girls I went to high school with, i.e. people who don't matter. By contrast, this quote, which I found on a Christian review site, is infuriating:

Quote:
I have read many of Melody Carlson's books, both for adults and teenagers. She is an excellent author and I enjoyed most of her books. However, Color Me Confused, is NOT a book I would promote. The teenagers today are confused enough. The Bible clearly shows that Bad Company Corrupts Good Character! Although I agreed that we shouldn't be mean or throw stones at others caught in a sinful lifestyle: homosexuality is clearly against God and the Bible and I want no part of it for me or my children. We can love people without loving the sin. There is no reason to encourage the friends to do anything further with these homosexuals other than pray for them, and to remain available for help in the right direction. Encouragement in sinful behavior of any kind only esculates and encourages the sinner. The Christian parents were not portrayed in the correct light either. Trying to remain as a witness for these kids by involving oneself in their lives is a recipe for disaster as they become accepting of this lifestyle because they are nice and are their friend. I warn parents to read this first. I also didn't like the black white comparison to straight gay. The color of one's skin has nothing to do with their sexual sins! As you can tell, I feel very strongly about this issue. I have witnessed first hand the devastating effects of Christian teenagers befriending homosexuals.

My sixth grade bullies used to say "that's so gay," but whatever, they were ignorant sixth graders. Laanguage like that above, however, was used by adults in my life to condone what the bullies were doing to me (quote from teacher, overheard: "I'm glad they call each other f*gs and d*kes - It'll encourage them not to be that way.")

i dont think people who use it are being intentionally homophobic and most have probably not even realised it could be offensive nor have stopped to think about the connotations

Political correctness, I don't think I'll ever get it. And as a heterosexual white male that's gonna cost me at some point in my life.

Anyway, I use the phrase "that's gay" in text form sporadically. However, there's no refference to homosexuals in that phrase. Instead, it's sarcastic, it uses the original meaning of the word "gay" in a sarcastic way to imply that something is lame, stupid or annoying.

Speech-wise, however, I do use homophobic phrases or words to describe situations or persons that irk me. Primarily flamboyant men or really butch women, which I just can't stand.

I have nothing to contribute to this discussion. But I would like to point out that the automatically generated ads in this post are hillarious.

Basically all he's saying is that interacting with gays is a matter for mature Christian adults to handle, so therefore he doesn't recommend the book.

Uh, wow. You "cant stand" certain people just for not following the "normal" gender stereotypes? Just... wow.

Doesn't matter.

Uh. wow. You ascribe a meaning to my words that isn't there? Just...wow.

I suppose you like everyone, no one ever gets on your nerves for a variety of reasons and s**t smells like roses. I don't care about gender stereotypes except for when they're used for comedic purposes.

When a guy is dressed in bright clothing, with way too many accessories it hurts my eyes, add to that a manner of speech that seems to scream "PAY ATTENTION TO ME EVERYONE" then yes, that guy annoys the hell out of me.
As for butch women, I just have a problem with macho behaviour (not a trait confined to men) and wearing too much jeans and/or leather.

Umm, it sounds pretty much like what you said to me.

And, no, but i don't dislike people for dressing a certain way or having a certain type of voice. I think that's really shallow.

I think so, too. However, it never works out too well pointing it out.

Then again... my cargo pant wearing a** is a little biased.

Me too. I'm a female, but i wear all mens clothing and have short hair. It seems like from what Lecks said, he'd hate me. I'm not "macho" in any way, though.
