It doesn't really take work. :P

Just being honest. I think it's a stage everyone goes through, but especially intelligent young people. Like warriors going out into the wild to fight a lion, young intellectuals go online to fight avatars. I did it, too. You fall over a lot and take home some trophies, and then you take that experience into your adult life, where you fight only in real situations. :)

I suppose right now you're going through the 'condescending middle aged person' phase then. When all else fails, insult the intellect of those who oppose you. Yeah, the 'signs' are clear- we're arguing with a pseudo-scientist Vex

Do you at least have anecdote about Astrology working, at all? For example you should be able to showcase a prediction about your own story made by astrology and show up that it was , say 70% true in all its estimates. And posting the prediction would allow us to know if it is really a specific prediction and not some sort of bottled prediction that would work for most people.

It takes a while. That means that even if the basis for Astrology were true, it is not correct right now and it will take them "a while" to update. Where "a while" may be 5 years. Not to mention, what will happen when they find another celestial body?

It's a work in progress, just like everything else. Everything is in motion. Even ideas about science change.

And also, it is not necessary for me to use that argument to disprove Astrology.

No, it's not necessary, unless you claim that astrology is not valid, in which case you will.

No. We don't need an argument to prove astrology true to have a thread about astrology.

Do you have evidence for the claims of Astrology?

No. I keep saying that.

Do you know the biological process in which planets and stars influence not only our personalities but our future?

No

Do you have evidence that the calculations Astrologers use are correct?

No

Are you sure that they interpreting a "quadrature " as something is not based on complete guesses some astrologer made up a long ago?

What's a quadrature?

Quote:
Or the fact that Venus is supposed to have a different effect than Mars, what is the basis for that theory?

I don't know. Something I'd like to find out.

Quote:
Is there a basis at all? Do you have evidence that Astrology has been ever used to predict anything accurately?

I would not make any claims about predictive astrology. At best, I think it can point to trends.

No, really, I can make the claim that Astrology is bull and you will have to prove it if you want to prove that assertion wrong. That's how science works. And yes, it is unfair, and it puts you into great trouble. But such is life.

If all you want is to have the thread, ok. But if you refuse to do any work to show that you are not talking complete utter BS, we all will have to assume that you are spamming the forum by creating threads about BS, and we... don't like that.

I don't really mind the controversy surrounding astrology, Vex. I am also vegan and study ninjutsu. The areas of my life I take most seriously are a matter of hilarity for people like you. I live with it every freaken day, and just try to find people who understand.

I am sorry that I am not here to prove astrology to anyone. I came to find some more Astrology-Geeks (someone who geeks out over astrology) and take them back in my pocket for later use. You're welcome to study it for yourself and debunk it all day.

Obviously I have anecdotes of it "working", or I wouldn't have put so many hours and months of my life into it. None of them would fit your expectation of what astrology is or should be used for, so I don't think it's worth sharing. It's invaluable in my life, and it allows me to get to know people much faster, which I enjoy immensely.

My only interest is in having an interesting discussion about astrology with people.

I take it you didn't read the beginning of the thread, but it is neither spam or BS. It is a bit outside the regular remit of the PPR which is perhaps why we are experiencing so much turbulence. It is not an argument, like I assume a lot of the content of PPR is. At least, it didn't start out as an argument.

If someone could think of a better forum for discussing astrology, as opposed to arguing it's validity, I'd perhaps move it there.

Random discussion would probably be more appropriate if you want to talk about it without us a**hole bigot argumentative young people interfering with scientific questions

Yes, random is about the only place it will fit. I agree with that. Your other point I will politely ignore for now, as there's no value in playing with it.

Correct! If you like astrology just for fun and don't take it seriously then fine. But if you do take it seriously, you are just plain wrong. It has 0 plausibility and 0 evidence. Sorry.

Move then? This should be interesting. I wonder what the hazing ritual is in there.

Well, I expect we'll see a different section of the WP populace rubbishing astrology.

Pre-emptive hi to Asp-Z

No, but the regulars in random are much milder really.

This is fun, I should move threads more often. :D

Forgive me for butting in, but how exactly is "astrology = false" any kind of a question?
