My native tongue is English and I am in the process of learning Japanese and German, but after that I would like to learn a few more languages, though I'm not sure exactly which ones in which order because I won't begin learning another one until I'm fluent in German or Japanese (or both.) I'm interested in learning either Korean or French as a next language, though.

I'd like to know how to speak/read Japanese and FInnish.

Japanese so I can watch/read manga/anime without having to rely on translations as they can be a bit rubbishy sometimes.

Finnish because.. well why not?

Really?
You wish to learn Japanese merely for the sh***y anime/manga that Japan produces?

When I was still studying German, I talked to a lot of people online who were also self teaching themselves foreign languages, and even the ones who could fluently read and write in their foreign language of choice couldn't understand a word of it spoken by native speakers. (One of them finally managed to have a phone conversation in Finnish after studying for years, and he still found the conversation incredibly difficult.) I was no different. My skills at reading and composing sentences got pretty good, but hearing native Germans speak casually was no different than hearing native Spaniards speak Spanish. Even my Spanish teacher in high school told me that he could barely understand people from Spain and Mexico, which I thought was funny.

Yup. It'd be very weird to become able to *think* in a spoken language without using it verbally with other speakers.

And some languages have additional challenges. My Irish sounds like Scottish to Dubliners because my instructor is from Ulster. Oopsie :D

Improve my Spanish...

Other than that, I am learning French before my
French class starts in September.

I also want to learn Portguese, Sign Language, and another language.

I want to be a language interpreter and am meeting with
a jobs counselor on Wednesday.
