I'd like to tell them, "Bloody Hell"! and bop them in the side of the head, with a Routemaster. That's something that I'll need to practice, for after I win the Super-7 jackpot, tomorrow night. These are the skills, for when I'm living in my three-storied country home. Oh, Jehovas don't make trips out to the middle of nowhere. Oops!

It's not appropriate to lump mormons with Jehovah's witnesses.

I'm not impressed with the Jehovah's Witnesses' religion, but they never bought into racism, even when it was expected of everybody in the society where they lived. The mormons went through the civil rights era calling black people n****rs and saying the civil rights movement was part of a communist conspiracy. Mormon apostle ezra taft benson stated in a 1968 general conference that "Decent negros do not support the so-called civil rights movement."

Then in 1977, the mormon "prophet" announced that the mormon church would start recognizing the equality of black people with people of other races.

There were about fifty thousand Jehovah's Witnesses in Germany when the nazis came to power. The nazis killed about a third of them because they refused to swear loyalty to the government.

There were about the same number of mormons in nazi germany, and the nazis only killed one of them, a fifteen year old recent convert named Helmut Hubner, who was writing, printing, and distributing pamphlets saying that naziism was not compatible with the teachings of jesus.

The mormons excommunicated him for opposing the government before he was beheaded by the gestapo. After the war, they reinstated his membership. Those mormons have great moral vision and courage; if you don't believe it, just ask them.

So I'm respectful when I get rid of the Jehovah's witnesses, but the mormon magic underwear salesmen get no respect at all from me.

I don't understand why people find it necessary to be so mean and cruel. You certainly aren't going to change any mind's with such behavior. I disagree with JW however I always try to be polite.

Ultimately, the issue is that they are coming to your door and trying to sell you their religion. While some of them are perfectly fine, most of the people who do that sort of thing are perfectly obnoxious-- or at least that's my experience. As far as "mean and cruel", I've actually toned it down considerably as I've gotten older. It used to delight me to make these people as nervous as possible, but now I just want them to leave me alone.

I suppose I have an entirely different perspective then many on this issue. I have no problem what so ever with people openly "advertising" their religious beliefs. In fact I believe it's one of the lovely things about a pluralistic society in contrast with a closed society.

I agree but my actions have been totalily a result of social fear. For a stranger to
approach me and begin talking about something so intimate as religion is very scary
thing. If I knew the people I would have no problem talking for hours to them about
anything they wanted.

It is a good thing that people can go around trying to get you to sign up for their religion.

BUT it's also annoying. I'm a Christian, and I regard JW's and Mormons as cults. That's why I took the approach of simply opening a Bible, and saying "see here, it doesn't say anything like that." The missionaries and JW's aren't interested in discussion, they're interested in finding people with a vague notion of what the Bible says, so they can talk them into joining up.

Oh, I don't have a problem with it either. I have a problem with the pushy people who won't go away once they've targeted you.

I was nice at first but they kept coming so I got rough on their butts.

I don't answer the door.

What I'd like to do, however, is find any logicial fallacies and bring them up in sucession, giving them just enough time to recover from the previous ones. I might take a bible down - dunno.

I once had friends, when I was younger, who were from a Jehovah's Witness background, and were multi-racial(black, white, and native). They didn't go around passing out literature or anything, so I think that they were nominal members. One thing I do like about the JWs is that they are annialationists(sp?), like the seventh day adventists, so they do not threaten me with eternal damnation if I do not accept there beliefs. Also as a "godless Communist", who would have worn a red triangle in the concentration camp, had I lived in Nazi germany, I can appreciate the fact that they also did suffer during the Third Reich as well. Only instead of red there's were purple.

well to each his own, but I agree, I wish they wouldn't "harass"....

I always hated having one student in my class that was JW. There was always one every few years or so and it would put a damper on any holiday or birthday going on in the classroom. I'd always have to send that one kid out of the room during birthday parties, halloween, easter, and the like so that he was not influenced in anyway.

It's kind of getting ridiculous these days....the American society is drowning itself in political correctness.

now as far as the doorbell ringing, I was always prepared with my 100 ways to stump a JW that I got from my catholic training class. But be prepared as most JW that are doing the cold calling are usually their best people, so be prepared for a strong apologetics debate.
