That is when bart is being talked to by a guy in an australian pub, that episode is so wrong, we are nothing like what they show.
i always felt that's kind of the point. The Simpsons themselves (and by extension the rest of Springfield) are supposed to be stereotypes of bad Americans. it'd only make sense that the other countries they visit are equally stereotypical. not only that but you'll notice The Simpsons still come off as worse than any country they visit (the Australia episode included).
True. That is the success recipe of the sitcom: American sitcoms tend to overrate American culture and sort of mock of other cultures. The Simpsons mock of EVERY culture, including their own culture.
The characters are so recognisable: the Bible-obeying neighbour, the corrupt mayor and police, the bullies at the school playground, the village drunk, the overhyped TV stars, ... The Simpsons is a boot in the groin of American culture in a way that is acceptable even to the American audience itself.
