That is when bart is being talked to by a guy in an australian pub, that episode is so wrong, we are nothing like what they show.

i always felt that's kind of the point. The Simpsons themselves (and by extension the rest of Springfield) are supposed to be stereotypes of bad Americans. it'd only make sense that the other countries they visit are equally stereotypical. not only that but you'll notice The Simpsons still come off as worse than any country they visit (the Australia episode included).

True. That is the success recipe of the sitcom: American sitcoms tend to overrate American culture and sort of mock of other cultures. The Simpsons mock of EVERY culture, including their own culture.

The characters are so recognisable: the Bible-obeying neighbour, the corrupt mayor and police, the bullies at the school playground, the village drunk, the overhyped TV stars, ... The Simpsons is a boot in the groin of American culture in a way that is acceptable even to the American audience itself.

There are quotes that I was planning to post that I won't post now because they've already been posted by someone else... But nobody has posted this yet:

Ralph: "They taste like...burning"

actually that reminds me of one of my favorite moments!

in the episode where they go to Japan and they don't do anything Japanese (typical American tourists). and when they do, they go to the Americatown restaurant, where the Japanese employees mercilessly mock American culture.

"howdy gangstas!"

It's not even a quote, but Marge and Homer are awake in bed and he's reading a book called "Hot Lottery Picks".

Jimbo: "We're complex!" (After the bullies do something unexpected)

Ralph: "It's all scratchy and hurty" (After Skinner gives him a Brillo pad to sleep on while snowed in at school)

Nelson: "Ah, le mot juste!" (No context needed)
