木耳 mu er

Well it's also called wood ear. It's mostly used in east Asian cooking, but I think it grows everywhere.

It grows on trees and looks like an ear. I like the dried kind, after it's been rehydrated, in Chinese cooking. It's chewy but not slimy. I don't mind dried mushrooms as much, or chewy ones. I hate slimy ones.

- olives, they have an odd taste and texture
- mushrooms, same as above, but they also smell bad when people cook them
- eggs, I'm warming up to them somewhat, but I still don't care for the smell of them cooking
- cold cheese, unless it's parmesan, it has to be melted for me to enjoy it because of the smell, taste, and texture
- canned tuna, it's a mushy, smelly, disgusting insult to real fish... and this is coming from a guy who enjoys anchovies
- cheap vodka, since it just tastes like harsh alcohol and impurities with no other flavors to mask it
- white milk, tastes and smells weird
- cottage cheese, wet it looks disgusting and I won't bother to try it, dry its texture can ruin an otherwise perfectly good lasagne

Oddly enough, I f*****g love melted cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Really, if not for the fact that they smell bad when you cook them, as well as the taste and texture they have when cooked in certain ways, and the fact that they come out a chicken's cloaca (!), eggs probably wouldn't be on my list. Portabella and shiitake mushrooms are somewhat OK too, but still not my favorite.

It's a fungus, but I'm not entirely sure whether it's really considered to be a mushroom. It seems to be a type of mushroom, but I'm not an expert.

A few days ago I bought some beer that was on sale and I'd never had it before.
Labatt Prohibition Series Bourbon Barrel Ale.

It's awful!!

At first impression it has a flavor of cheap beer quickly followed by an alarmingly sh***y chemically flavor that tastes like toilet bowl cleaner smells. It's actually much worse than that. It's supposed to have a bourbony flavor but nothing in it reminds me of bourbon in the least. I poured the whole six pack down the kitchen sink. Luckily I had better beer than that on hand that i could drink instead.

That's macrobrew for you. Not that I'm entirely against macrobrews, but anytime they try to do something more complex than a lager or a light ale, they tend to screw it up. It still amazes me that Rickard's Red is as good as it is considering it's made by Molson. Most of the time it's a pretty good beer, not terribly complex, but it definitely has more body than a macrobrew lager. Unfortunately, I've encountered a few batches that have just tasted terrible.
