Homosexuality is not a choice, and hardwired into a person's brain. Just like my attraction to plump females reviled by popular culture. I don't find skinny girls physically sexually attractive, and it isn't my choice. I still find them cute though.

Homosexuality is a natural solution to overpopulation possibly. Still, if it's hardwired into the mind... whether or not it was a choice in the first place, it can't be changed when it's hardwired either naturally, or developed.

Religion is a mental refuge created by humanity. Religious zealots are the blindest and most delusional of the lot. Religion is stupid, but funny <.<

My mom has suspected since my brother was 3 years old that he was gay (he is). Does anyone really think that he made the decision at 3 to be gay? He wouldn't have even known what it was!

He was raised Christian, but he's completely turned against Christianity and has nothing but scorn for Christians now due to being so hurt by the opinions of the religious right. I don't even consider those people to be Christians because of the intolerance they preach, but because of them, my brother has been made to feel awful about who he is, and there are so many places in the country he couldn't safely live because of other people's ignorance.

No longer Christian? It's more likely he's using his brain and not following blindly what others tell him.

And I agree, not many places are safe to live. But that has nothing to do with beliefs or being gay. How old is your brother?

What makes you think this isn't possible? You should see some of the home videos we have.

Also, my mom never told him that. She told me when I was older, and when he was 3 she had spoken to several other people about it. So it's not like he knew that she felt that way and was living up to her expectations.




I'm not saying it isn't possible. Just that curiousity might be considered.

How would you feel if you had blond hair, and a very vocal Christian population was going around saying that people with blond hair were all sinners, and that they could only be accepted as Christians and go to heaven if they dyed their hair brown? What if having blond hair was an important part of your identity?

Well during childhood, I was made fun of for being half Russian/Jewish and half Irish by other students and by teachers (1960's).
And since 1986 (when I became wiccan) being viewed as a Devil worshipper by Christian zealots, having the tires on my car slashed, hateful/prejudice literature stuck to my apartment door by the local Jehovah's Witness church members. I can kind of relate to your brothers plight.

Also, I'm not sure how he is following what others tell him. He's still in the closet outside of our family. He's really struggling with his identity right now, and he suffers from real self-esteem problems. None of his friends are gay either, so it's not like he's getting influenced by people around him.

This area I have no room to speak being hetero. And wouldn't feel right by saying anything about coming out or seeking support groups. It's sad that people can't simply accept other for who they are.



He's 21. When I was talking about safety, I meant both physically and emotionally. Physically, there are many instances of hate crimes carried out against gays by intolerant people. Emotionally, how healthy would it be for him to live in a portion of the country where he was surrounded by people who believed that to be who he is is to go against the will of God? He'd either be openly gay and be a pariah, or have to hide away who he really is and live a lie. How healthy is that? How happy would he be?
