As far as I know most murders do not happen at clubs. I am a little bit concerned some of you here are confusing clubs in movies with real life. I mean something can start at a club...but the likelyhood of the club staff/bouncers just standing by while a bunch of assualts/murder take place isn't a real life thing.
Most murders don't happen at clubs, but there are a number of murders outside of night clubs every year and the victim and murderer are usually both men and the murder is usually over a trivial thing such as a perceived slight.

I even once got drugged I left my drink 'just one time' to go to the bathroom and sure enough someone slipped something into it...luckily I was at a bar next to my sisters work which was a hair cut salon and planning to meet her immediately after a couple beers so she could cut my hair and then she was going to drive me to my friends house. So the worst that happened was she was initially kind of mad because she though maybe I had just gone and gotten all f**d up by my own choosing but then I told her what happened the next day when I had sobered up. I don't even want to think about what could have happened if I didn't have a plan to meet my sister. Also I can say that's the last time I ever let my drink out of my sight.
It's kind of ignorant to claim that an average straight male is more at risk than an average straight woman when going out alone to clubs/bars. Also its not always about hooking up...a lot of people go to those settings just to socialize or have some drinks not necessarily with an end goal of having to hook up. And couples go, I've gone to a Goth club with my boyfriend...and yeah if you're being a belligerent or menacing they won't let you in and I think that is a good thing.
I agree that women are significantly more likely to be sexually assaulted, not just as a club but everywhere in general. However men are significantly more likely to be murdered or physically assaulted at or outside of a club. Women have safety in numbers but for men it's often the opposite.
Well sexual assault tends to be quite physical and can certainly escalate to being murdered. Also not all women have safety in numbers...I've certainly been out alone at night, as I didn't have friends to group with. I think its more likely for a lone man to face a violent assault than a group of women for instance, but if a violent criminal has the choice of an average sized male or a average sized woman by them self they'll probably see the latter as an easier target. Also though as it stands most rapes have male perpetrators and female victims, not always the case but certainly significant enough to say it occurs more that way than male on male or female on male or female on female.
