By the time something has passed the point to reasonably be labeled a mass-killing, arguing over which one was the biggest kind of loses its edge. My point still stands: targeted mass-killings between the Hutus and the Tutsis have historically happened both ways,a nd is thusly not "unprecedented".

Also, the alleged numbers of the 1972 killings vary wildly, with one side claiming it was 15.000 and the other claiming 300.000.

Not that it matters to this thread....but the SCOPE of the murders were unprecedented. We're arguing over semantics, basically.

Same here. It seems to me that many of the people accusing others of 'Privilege' are blind to their own privileges. That's what started me on this thread.

Right, if we use the term so loosely we all have privileges others don't and the term loses all meaning.

Privilege is 2019 is largely a weaponized term used to guilt trip people and delegitimize opinion by delegitimizing the person expressing the opinion ie “you have ——— privilege, you can never understand”.

This is exactly what I meant. It's (mostly) used to guilt-trip, shame and invalidate - and not necessarily based on behaviour. If someone was born with a certain privilege there's hardly anything they can do about it except acting like a decent human being towards others, if they worked hard to acquire a skill/develop a talent it's ridiculous to try to turn that into some kind of crime...

How about "vertical" privilege? There's always been a bias favoring tall people!

I've been a victim of Vertical Privilege all my life! I demand reparations for it!

That's definitely true.

Short women are considered attractive only because some people think it's beautiful that we're so automatically submissive.

Um, we're not. Unless the person saying it is secretly being gross about physically dominating someone. Because yes it is probably easier to attack a short woman than a tall woman but that's not her being willing to submit...

Short guys are considered unattractive, short women like me are considered unattractive/creepy to fancy (because 'child sized'), short people are disrespected.

Also where is the body positivity movement for short people? It's ridiculous that a woman has to be 5"7 to get on the catwalk and presumably it's taller in men.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" -- what one person sees as average or ugly, another may see as beautiful or awesome. Generally, "Beauty Privilege" is being born with an appearance that is pleasing or attractive to others, and which causes those others to be more deferential toward the person they perceive as 'beautiful'.

Ever notice how often pretty women and handsome men seem to be treated nicer by the people around them? Ever notice how often us ordinary folk are ignored? That is Beauty Privilege in action.

A short, attractive man (and, to some extent, a tall, attractive woman) are somewhat scorned by some. This is magnified if the person, objectively, is not seen as being "attractive."

Short, attractive women are somewhat favored by men in general---but they are not as "respected" as a woman of average height.

You are splitting hairs -- and dragging this thread off-topic again.

All what I said is within the purview of "privilege."

I can see the point... we often concentrate on advantages we don't have, but there's always the other side of the coin... to anything.

The expanded privilege has expanded into intersectionality where your opinions are judged based on a ranking scale of privileges and oppressions based on the groups you were born into. If you were born into enough groups deemed oppressed you need safe spaces to protect you from being triggered by those born into enough groups deemed privileged. There is not always agreement as to how this scale should be defined and measured leading to what is known as “oppression olympics”.

If we took all this "privilege" seriously, we would never be able to have any fun!

"Having fun" would be seen as being a manifestation of some sort of "privilege."

Or, in cruder terms, an "Oppression Pissing Contest"...

ME: "I'm an Aspie."

HE: "Oh yeah? Well, I'm an immigrant Aspie!"

SHE: "I got you both beat! I'm a female immigrant Aspie!"

 Et cetera, ad nauseum...
