That’s a little bit what this 6 blocks known as the DTES is.. most SRO’s and all the various services these folks rely on are all concentrated here, right along with the drug gangs that supply the fuel for the fire.

I’ve heard some horrific stories of abuse, assault, sexual assault and other traumas going on in this neighbourhood - some of which need to be investigated by police.. but I don’t have much faith that they will be unless they’re amplified by the media.
There have been a handful to gang shootings in the area recently. Some say retaliation for a gang slaying downtown a month ago, others say they’re related to a new street gang moving on from Montreal. Maybe it’s both.
Right now at this moment things are blocked off for police because some woman lost her mind and is throwing things out of a window 4 or so storeys up and apparently she threw a TV and it hit someone and might be a fatality. If not fatal they’re at least really mangled and being taken away by stretcher/ambulance. (Just read the posts on Fb, I’m nowhere near there at the moment.)
Others commented that they avoid walking in certain areas because of falling objects. One woman said a TV landed beside her one time. I heard someone got hit with a frying pan a while back. Crazy.

Read a post that Walmart has stopped delivery service in the DTES. (as well as some other areas - not sure why on the other areas.) I assume because of safety of delivery people. Not sure who they use as couriers to deliver there. It's upset some ppl in that community, especially elders with mobility issues who can't get to Walmart. Few people in that area own cars so that's not so easy, either. Kinda forces people to use more expensive delivery services like Instacart or Uber or taxis etc.
A thought that popped into my mind is that maybe this area needs a neighbourhood delivery company.. like ALL packages from all couriers simply get routed to this final delivery company, and then they make final deliveries and the community grants them safe passage kind of thing. It would add a layer of complexity and cost to deliveries for sure, though.. so maybe isn't a viable idea. But this area IS known for all kinds of crazy.. like when the s**t hits the fan, all buses in the area are diverted and don't even go within it. Not sure if Canada post has any issues delivering there or not.
Crazy, though.. for a city with such immense amounts of wealth to have these sorts of problems.
