All RIGHT!

Did you read my last post?

And I'd like to add that 29,000 is MUCH cheaper than the average house! We could raise that between us no problem; just a little fundraising! Then we buy it, and it's ours, and we raise the money to buy a boat to transport us there, and a marina for the boat, and a building for us to live in... in the meantime, we live in tents or mud huts. :)

Javid, I added your name! :D

Now who doesn't mind not having electricity? Running water is probably a necessity... more important than electricity. We can use candles, satellite internet (we could set up one of those satellite things on the building, it's cheaper than everyone having their own providers) and hand-crank radios. TVs can be battery-run. Unless there are poeple here who like building generators and wiring buildings. Is anyone here a plumber?

I've toyed with the notion of "no electricity" before. Once again, you're getting very into the realm of "Not easy, not for the feint of heart." Few peoplle understand how... spoiled we've become with access to modern infreastructure. Of course this means "no internet", which is hard. Are you ready to deal with that? In all honesty, the part I can't get over is "no refridgeration". I know a lot about suvival and self-reliance, but "no refridgeration" makes things MUCH more complicated, and rather less healthy. This can be solved by a few solar cells, a bank of batteries, and a high-efficiency freezer and refrigerator. Or possibly a windmill and the same. Both are spotty, and depend on conditions beyond one's controll.

If you're talking about a remote island... are there any doctors or medics on the list?

Good fortune,

Good question... WHO HERE IS A DOCTOR OR MEDIC?

Anyway, we can eat nonperishables and the few perishables we acquire, we can cook and eat right away. :) Water? Rainwater is good; we should make a temporary water resevoir. Eventually, when the population grows, we will need one of hose water de-salters, as well as a water filtration system... internet and all that I can do without... radio could be important if disasters come up... a boat is a necessity...

This Island off the coast of Belize is big enough to build a small landing strip so we can refuel planes. Might start a small industry of servicing drug-lord cocaine planes.

Ana54 could perhaps strike up a email buddy relationship with the aspie son of a Columbian crime boss and even get the funds to buy the island.

Um, my apologies, friends; I fear I've sent this commune thread spinning down an untennable tract with my "crazy" primitivist and self-reliance thing. And I fear the respectable TheMachine1 might have been being just a bit facetious with the notion of buying an island [please correct me if I'm spouting crap, sir]... Hog Cay might be doable at 681 acres, but is probably out of the pricerange of the immediate listees. Jemzie's at 1.2 acres... Maybe afordable, but no way... My front yard is two acres, and it's rather tiny.

I suggest this commune notion be re-tracted to attempt to acquire a house or building or [preferably] a small compound in some country with a socialized system of government, somewhere near [but not necessarily in] a city or some other provider of modern infractructure like mail, hospitals, and such.

Good fortune,

- Icarus the Realist

I gotta second Icarus. The primitivist stuff sounds a bit extreme, and I think it would be a lot worse than most people imagine.

all right! we, who have a problem with the bully down the street are going to negotiate with a Columbian crime boss. We can pay for the Island by selling tickets to see THAT one!

This is the most beautiful little thread I have ever had the pleasure to witness. I don't know where you all are going, but I certainly send my hopes and prayers with you and for you. This is truly the spirit of Woodstock, and though I doubt it will get off the ground in reality, in spirit it is already soaring.

Ana, please sign up my spirit.

Peace and love to you all.

If people really are serious about this, an important first step would be forming a non-profit corporation and setting up some sort of formal books to handle the money. Any accountants out there?

I agree that more land would be better - there's got to be enough room to go off by one's self once in a while.

But it has 191 ft. of floor space.

Now that's do-able. But you'd better hurry and get a decent bid in.
