As far as mummy museum pics, this is the best I could do. All the rest are hopefully in a box at my parent's house (if some random cat has not peed on them :( )

Image

I THINK the mummy in the background is the first mummy that was exhumed and put on display..note how hugely gigantic he is!

This was in the summer of 2001.
I travelled through Mexico with a friend/ex-boyfriend who was living there at the time.

I took zillions of photos, but this seems to be the only one I have in my posession :(

Yes it was! It was my only time ever leaving the country. I got to hitchhike, and sleep on strangers' floors, camp in a cave that was actually shaped like a skull, get chased by wild cattle, all kindsa stuff.
I saw the mummies on my last day there before hopping on the bus to go home.
It sure is nice to have friends who speak Spanish, even if they are wreckless lunatics

poopylungstuffing: Yes, he does look really tall, did they mention how tall he was? My guess would be around...2m.

AndersTheAspie: You read my mind! I was thinking of asking you to draw a mummy, but didn't want it to be much of a hassle, but I'm glad you did! :D

I'm not going to get into the relationship the Ancient Egyptians had with their pets and animals; that's a whole other topic, right there. I didn't find that much info on mummified pets, and I'm too lazy to dig up the books on Ancient Egypt I have ( :P ) so if anybody has anything interesting to add, feel free. :)

Mummified Pets in Ancient Egypt

Although in Ancient Egypt humans have been the main subjects for mummification, animals were also mummified, many of which might have been pets or used as offerings to the gods. Others were sacred and used for symbolism. Often times, animal mummies were overlooked when it came to deciphering the Ancient Egyptian life, but are now being given more importance by scientists.

Mummified Baboon..........................................................................................Cat mummies

The Egyptians loved their pets and went to great lengths to preserve them for the afterlife by planning elaborate burials. Many were even killed and mummified when their owner died so they might not be seperated in death.

Almost all Egyptian gods were associated with some animal and assumed the form of that particular beast. Not all cats, for instance, were deities, even though the species was believed to be sacred. A cat became sacred only after special rituals were performed, and in the belief that the cat deity Bastet dwelt within the animal, and perhaps by certain markings deemed divine.

Some gods were left animal mummies as offerings. When dog mummies were not buried with their owners, they were meant as a gift for the god Anubis, for instance. Falcons and hawks were left for Horus and cats, for the goddess Bastet. If an animal was difficult to breed to be offered by the ancient Egyptians they were caught in the wild. If the proper animal could not be offered in sacrifice, a false mummy such as an animal similar to the one needed or even one made out of mud was used.

A certain Hapymen, buried at Abydos, was so fond of his pet dog that it was mummified and wrapped in linen, and placed at the side of his feet in his coffin. In the Valley of the Kings, a pet baboon and a dog were placed so that they glared at each other in preparation for battle. It is unclear whose pets these rivals were.

Although it is possible that some pets were killed when an owner died, it is perhaps more likely that a pet was placed in the tomb of its owner after a natural death. The X-rays of these pet mummies may help to clarify this issue by providing evidence as to the manner of death.

Usually, animal cemeteries are reserved for one kind of animal. Those for cats date to around 900 BC, particularly at Bubastis ("House of Bastet"), the temple and cult center of Bastet.

Animals Worshipped by the Egyptians:

ImageImage
Bastet: worshipped as a cat.

Image Image
Hathor: worshipped as a cow.

ImageImage
Horus: worshipped as a hawk or falcon.

ImageImage
Sobek: worshipped as a crocodile.

ImageImage
Thoth: worshipped as a baboon or ibis.

ImageImage
Anubis: worshipped as a dog, fox or jackal.

ImageImage
Khnum: worshipped as a ram.

ImageImage
Apis: worshipped as a bull.

Yes I am reading your mind 8O but for the record; if you would like me to draw you something it is more effective if you ask, I'm only a mediocre mind reader

Now here is what the D&D Monster Manual has to say about mummies:

MUMMY
Mummies are preserved corpses animated through the auspices of dark desert gods best forgotten.
Most mummies are 5 to 6 feet tall and weigh about 120 pounds.
Mummies can speak Common, but seldom bother to do so.
COMBAT
Despair (Su): At the mere sight of a mummy, the viewer must succeed on a DC 16 Will save or be paralyzed with fear for 1d4 rounds. Whether or not the save is successful, that creature cannot be affected again by the same mummy’s despair ability for 24 hours. The save DC is Charisma-based.
Mummy Rot (Su): Supernatural disease—slam, Fortitude DC 16, incubation period 1 minute; damage 1d6 Con and 1d6 Cha. The save DC is Charisma-based.
Unlike normal diseases, mummy rot continues until the victim reaches Constitution 0 (and dies) or is cured as described below.
Mummy rot is a powerful curse, not a natural disease. A character attempting to cast any conjuration (healing) spell on a creature afflicted with mummy rot must succeed on a DC 20 caster level check, or the spell has no effect on the afflicted character.
To eliminate mummy rot, the curse must first be broken with break enchantment or remove curse (requiring a DC 20 caster level check for either spell), after which a caster level check is no longer necessary to cast healing spells on the victim, and the mummy rot can be magically cured as any normal disease.
An afflicted creature who dies of mummy rot shrivels away into sand and dust that blow away into nothing at the first wind.

MUMMY LORD
Unusually powerful or evil individuals preserved as mummies sometimes rise as greater mummies after death. A mummy lord resembles its lesser fellows, but often wears or carries equipment it used in life.
Mummy lords are often potent spellcasters. They are found as guardians of the tombs of high lords, priests, and mages. Most are sworn to defend for eternity the resting place of those whom they served in life, but in some cases a mummy lord’s unliving state is the result of a terrible curse or rite designed to punish treason, infidelity, or crimes of an even more abhorrent nature. A mummy lord of this sort is usually imprisoned in a tomb that is never meant to be opened again.
Despair (Su): The save DC against this mummy lord’s despair is 17.
Mummy Rot (Su): The save DC against this mummy lord’s mummy rot is 17.
Typical Cleric Spells Prepared (6/7/6/5/5/4; save DC 15 + spell level): 0—detect magic (2), guidance, read magic, resistance, virtue; 1st—bane, command, deathwatch, divine favor, doom, sanctuary*, shield of faith; 2nd—bull’s strength, death knell*, hold person, resist energy, silence, spiritual weapon; 3rd—animate dead*, deeper darkness, dispel magic, invisibility purge, searing light; 4th—air walk, dismissal, divine power, giant vermin, spell immunity*; 5th—insect plague, slay living*, spell resistance, symbol of pain.
*Domain Spell. Domains: Death and Protection.
Possessions: +2 half-plate armor, cloak of resistance +2, ring of minor elemental resistance (fire), brooch of shielding. (Different mummy lords may have different possessions.)

Thanks Anders, this thread is become quite diverse! 8)

On a more morbid side note, there was a massacre in Deir el-Bahri temple in Luxor two weeks after I visited it with my family. 8O Sixty-two tourists were killed.

1 tanna leaf is enough to keep this thread from falling to page 2.

2 tanna leaves are enough to keep this thread visible from the top of the Random Thread Forum.

3 tanna leaves will keep this thread at or near the top of page 1.

4 tanna leaves must never be given to this thread - it might consume the rest of Wrong Planet! 8O

SilverProteus, tanna leaves were given to the Mummy (Karloff) to activate him. If I recall correctly 1 tanna leaf would wake him up, two would allow limited movement and 3 would make him fully ambulatory and deadly! :D BTW I may have misspelled tanna leaf.

The songs featured in their YouTube videos are mostly covers. I only found two that I wasn't 100% sure were covers. They had plenty of original songs, but I guess people like the covers better.
