They actually did a street test about something like this. A bunch of men in a city where shown 2 pictures of women, one was dressed slu*ty (like a Bratz and how many teenagers are today) and another was dressed in a professinal manner.

The results where no suprise, 100% of the men said that the professional looking woman was someone they would seriosuly want to get to know and start a long-term relationship, and the slu*ty woman would be easy sex and be a one night stand.

Many teenage girls who dress this way are hypocrites because many don't like the sexual attention they are getting yet they dress the part, and parents who buy the Bratz are hypocrites too because they complain how there is so much sex on TV and their kids have easy access to it, yet they buy these dolls for them.

Sad.

My Step-daughters actually went through their 'Bratz' phase a while back, and more than just about anything I've ever seen, it actually had an effect on them. They start wearing make-up, the clothes kept getting less and less (they were only 6 and 7 at the time.). The breaking point though was when they both got off the bus for their weekend at our house (hubby has 50% custody) and our 6 year old's bottom was hanging out of a skirt, she was wearing a tube-top looking thing, etc. And her older sister wasn't any better....yeah it was bad, I suddenly developed this nervous twitch under my right eye...right here.

Anyway, we were getting ready to go out for a family dinner that night and I just pointed to their room. "Go change, I refuse to be seen in public with little girls dressed like that." "But this is what we want to wear." "I don't care, clothing like that is inappropriate for little girls. Sheesh, -I- wouldn't even wear clothes like that!" "But our mommy lets us wear it." "Okay then when you're with her, then you can wear whatever you want, but when you're in my presence, you dress like respectable girls." (Yeah it pretty much went like that) My husband threw a BIG fit the next day when he dropped them back off at their Mother's house. She honestly said she didn't see anything wrong with the way they were dressed :/.

I honestly think it is more difficult raising girls properly because of crap like Bratz dolls, supermodels, etc. My step-daughters are both very smart, but it is so hard to explain to them "No that ISN'T normal, women are not supposed to look like that!" When the skinny, anorexic, slutty-dressed women are plastered over every bit of media they see. Then again as long as the rest of society continues to eat it up, it is never going to go away.

(let me stop before I get really going...this is one of my biggest issues when it comes to kids and society!)

My answer to Bratz, would have to be Sidz. My Sidz dolls would be built like Sid from 'Flushed Away', but they would be people. They would have spiked, coloured hair, but their faces would be plain. They'd wear biker jackets, or military style jackets, that have the same cut. Their pants would be tapered, instead of flared. They would also come with their own food, instead of purses and make-up. They would come in both genders, and half of my Sidz of both genders would wear the Union Jack, and the other half would wear the American flag, since Punk is both a British and American phenomenon. There wouldn't be any skin showing, or tight clothes. :O)

I'd buy em! And I know my sons would totally love them! (Dunno so much about my step-daughters though, they're still trying to adjust to the fact that their step-mom used to have a mohawk, has tattoos, and wears punk music t-shirts in public! *gasp*)

Last Christmas I tried to find conservatively dressed dolls (and even clothes) for the girls, and came up with nothing. Barbies, Bratz and other types of dolls are, imho, just a younger girls version of fashion magazines. All it is teaching our girls is that you HAVE to be extremely underweight, get as much plastic surgery as your sugar daddy will pay for to make yourself as physically perfect as medically possible...but oh don't worry about what's on the inside or anything, because THIS is what's important... meh, yeah it really gets me peeved. (end rant)

So it is true. I didn't know if they dressed it like that to be funny. Even without it they still look well....not like babies even in their clothes. I just posted earlier in this thread of what I found googling. Sad to say, that it's no joke. They look like that at Walmart and Toys R' Us.

Glad they got in trouble, that got me a little worried about what will they next manufacture to "children."

I think that if I were a pedophile and was able to arrange society to my liking, I don't think I would change much at all. Not that I want to go back to the bad old days of repressive do black patent leather shoes reflect up modesty, but we do need to think about what kind of image we are projecting and why. Ok, so the teenage slu*ty look is in. Who decreed it so, and who benefits by it? That's exactly the kind of look I'd want IF I were a pedophile fashion designer. Yes, let's break down inhibitions. Breaking down inhibitions is good. After all, you don't want the prey to wake up and realize it is prey. Convince them this is all good and desirable and their own idea.

I am involved in an organization of professional women and recently I heard a talk given about dress and power. Ladies, the speaker said, if you want to project an image of power, if you want to be taken seriously, then you cannot wear revealing clothing. And it's true. Look at the women who are in politics, like Hillary Clinton. You don't see them dressing like Bratz dolls. And maybe that's what Bratz is all about, a way of discouraging our daughters from seeking real power by dangling false glamor in front of them before they are old enough to realize what they are being sold.

Well-said. I agree totally. In the 1980's, when I was a teen, we would get sent home from school with an infraction slip for clothes that covered more of the body than what these dolls have on. (Bear in mind - when I was 16, every girl wanted to dress like Madonna]. These Bratz doll outfits make Madonna look like a nun. Just the kind of message we need to send to little girls, right? The more time passes by, the more societal taboos become 'acceptable.' And it happens so slowly and inexorably that we don't pay attention to it until the damage has already been done. I would never buy this sort of crap for my daughter when she was little (I thought "My Pretty Pony" was stupid - I mean really, do horses need make-up?). Little girls shouldn't be taught that it's okay to dress like a whore. Just look at all those girls (ages 10-15) on MySpace. The photos they post there in order to draw attention are very close to being pornographic.

You're right. Girls do not understand this. They figure out pretty quick that they can get attention by wearing racy clothing and they mistake this attention for being respected as an adult, which is not the case. When you try to tell them this, they will not listen. Why should they? Their friends' parents let them dress this way, so in their minds, it should be okay for them, too. They see it everywhere - TV, internet, etc., and images are more powerful than words. Many parents these days have a harder job raising kids - especially girls - because they're constantly fighting the influence of the multimedia they're pounded with every day. And then you have the parents who either don't care or else they're the beauty-obsessed 'pageant mom' types who think the skimpy clothing is 'cute.' There's more of an effort to get people to quit smoking than there is to help prevent girls from wanting to dress themselves up like prostitutes. I wonder why that is? I think it's sickening how society uses subliminal crap like these dolls to train little girls to be sex objects.

I checked Walmart and Toys r' Us to see if Bratz Babies looked exactly like what I saw in googling. Yep, that's how they come.

Although, from what I read on here, they got rid of the baby thong. I can't believe they had a thong for Bratz Babies!! :x

Just when you think Bratz couldn't stoop any lower....

Jeanne Beker, well-known Canadian fashion reporter for magazines and TV,
just got "the treatment."

Well said. If you or anyone you know is going to play, with them please wear a tinfoil helmet.

Ugh, I hate Bratz. They look like prostitutes that took makeup tips from drag queens. Hell, that's actually kind of an insult to drag queens.

Just looking around the forum here and found this thread. I think they are great, better than Barbies in every way to me personally. I love the colors the hair the faces the fashion, bash away LOL doesn't matter, they don't look like hookers, my friends and I look more like Bratz dolls than we'd ever look like Supermodel Babs and I like that there was finally a doll that had an ethnic heritage like my own and didn't make you feel like you are ugly because you don't look like Heidi Klum in doll form. I think the message of helping animals and learning to play instruments and starting your own magazine (as a teen!) are better than the "values" my neighbors seem to have which is nothing but their kids in front of the TV all day. My kid started her own pretend magazine! I think they are very cute. Okay now off to explore the board, yes I am new!
:D
