I don't have any bacon or sausages but I bet ham would be a satisfactory replacement?

So, I will have the above but with crumpets instead of fried bread and some tomatoes from my garden.

Yummy!

(I had a vegetarian day yesterday so my carnivore is grumbling for some meat)

There's an English pub nearby. If they have takeout I'll have to have someone pick me up some bangers and mash. They have pasties and shepherds pie too.

"When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs every morning to help me get large. And now that I'm grown, I eat five dozen eggs. So I'm roughly the size of a barge!"

Wait a minute, if Gaston ate that many eggs, his belly would burst. Cool Hand Luke, eat your heart out.

I'll be drooling until it arrives. I looked it up, looks scrumptious. When I read the recipe for "proper English cottage pie", I found it amusing that one of the ingredients was Italian seasoning.

I throw in all sorts these days as it is available.

We never had any fancy seasoning in the kitchen when I was a youngster - white pepper was the most exotic thing on the table.

Cottage pie was made from the scaps of a sunday roast if you were lucky enough to have beef of course.

My mum made it with cheap minced beef from the butchers - which I normally had to go fetch along with spare ribs for the dog as they were so cheap or sometimes free.

I'm a bit of an Anglophile so British food sounds appealing to me. I'd like to eat in the pub when it's not busy, but alas still too young to enter.

I love The Oils, as we call them.
I regret not seeing them in concert when I had the chance.

Do you also dance like Peter Garret?

No, I don't necessarily dance in such a Bonkers like way, in fact I can't even dance.

'm sick of incompetent villains.

Therefore, the main [and only] villain of my current book series is not only reasonably clever, fairly powerful, has a plan that is simple and only has four steps, and is the only being in my universe ever to intentionally harm another being, he comes very close to winning. Not even a deus ex machina can stop him.

It sounds better than any random herbs will do.

I don't like the sound of a "proper English cottage pie", I think you should stick with Tem's improper one.
