What's so bad about being German?

When I'm cleaning downstairs on a double decker bus and the cleaner upstairs is sweeping the floor, the sound doesn't seem to hurt my ears or annoy me like it does when my neighbour does it above my apartment. I think it's because the sound from the top deck of the bus comes down the open stairs, where as the sound from the top floor apartment is a more zipped sound, if that makes sense, where it has nowhere to travel fast so it just vibrates through the walls and hollow ceiling instead, causing it to reach my ears in a different sort of way, thus causing ear pain and vertigo.
