the second one is a warning. the early steps in the wrong direction have already been taken. after 9/11, the US passed the patriot act that increased government surveillance powers. among many intrusions is that librarians, if asked, have to turn over all information they have on what i've been reading. i guess that might prevent a terrorist attack, but it also chills my looking into ways to protest the current powers. am i safe from getting a revenge tax audit because i read about protesting? it could get much worse.
