I have added this as an afterthought.
For those in the future, our wonderful CockneyRebel has changed his avatar to a left handed Santa. I personally enjoy CockneyRebel's exploration for avatars. The chances are it will change again, and personally I applaud every change.

Anyone else had short-lived fascinations with countries related to their special interest? Like when I was at school I got obsessed with Spain because I liked the Spanish language. Then when I got older I got obsessed with Poland because I liked a Polish guy. Now I'm obsessed with America, because of Foster.

Is cognitive dissonance the opposite of black and white thinking?

Went and put funny tinted inlays tapped on my glasses.

Only at night, tho.
Currently testing for red.
Then I'll test yellow and orange next.

Why???
Maybe because my body doesn't know it's nighttime?

Been sleeping a bit earlier lately.
Or maybe it's just the stupid cycle going downwards like.

Regardless, I had a good laugh about my get up.

And oh, reading about Irlen's Syndrome...
"Skipping words", distortions on huge paragraphs and visual strain -- this is something I actually observe after years of 'habitually reading' on screen. Especially the skipping words bit...

Maybe, this is the reason why my proportions almost never went right? Hmmm...

For me black and white thinking is it's black OR white, no in between.

And cognitive flexibility is hmm maybe it's actually some shade of grey.

And cognitive dissonance is what if it's white AND black. :x Or it's white but other people think it's black. Or it's white but I think it SHOULD be black. Or a bit of me says it's white and another bit says black.

Something like that. There are two thoughts that don't both fit but your brain's trying to hold both.

I often find myself holding two opposing views at the same time and my brain doesn't know what to do with these thoughts, so it spews out an emotional reaction. I learnt about it in this YouTube video about why we get the creeps, and it suggested cognitive dissonance, which made me research about it in a non-creepy context, and it described a lot of my thinking styles. In most cases I'm not a black and white thinker.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense to me Tamaya. I struggle with cognitive dissonance too. I don't have an overt emotional reaction but I can get 'stuck' on it. I feel like I *need* to reconcile the two views before I can move on, but the two views are irreconcilable, so... just stuck

Are you getting some good strategies out of the research?
