So, if I get two poems done over the next three days, I'll be done Book 2, then I can get the last five short stories done so I'll be done Book 4, and then work on typing out Book 2, 3, and 4. Then it'll be close to November, which means I need to get ready for National Novel Writing Month, which means I need to prepare to write Book 5...

^ I can understand why.

This is kind of old people logic, no offense to the poster.
But telling someone they have to wait 30 or 40 years to guage their life when the future doesn't even exist makes no sense to me.

Perhaps her message is along the lines of this. He is far too young to give up and he has a long life ahead of himself that he has no idea what may or may not happen so stop dwelling on the past and go live your life and see what happens.

All I can see is "you are not able to evaluate your life. You can't say whether it is good or bad because you haven't lived x amount of years."

Well, maybe his life will turn to absolute shite from now on, then his 20's will shine like a beacon in his 70's, but that's still not very encouraging.
