I grew up while CDs were at the height of their popularity so that's what I tended to listen to before. I got a record player about a decade ago I think, can't remember the year. The only records I have here in my apartment are a box of old Johnny Cash records I don't think I ever got the chance to listen to. Since I don't have the player here either, I mostly use youtube for the sake of convenience. The alternative is basically not listening to music.

We always called “vinyls” “records.” Never “vinyls.”

We played them on “record players” or “stereos.”

The big records were 33s; the small 45s. They had 78s in the old days.

We didn't call them vinyls either. They were just "records" or "albums". Now people say vinyl but I'm not sure why.

I assume that's the vocabulary younger people are familiar with.

I never had 78s but I still have some 45s, and about 200 33s and LPs / EPs.

I call them records to like they used to.

I seem to be at least a decade younger than both of you. I also have always known them as records, because my mom and grandpa called them that. I only recently started hearing them referred to as vinyls.

My favorite S&G song is Cecilia. When I was a kid I made up a whole dance number to it. I also like The Boxer and Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard, among others.

Have you ever traveled abroad? If so where was your favorite destination?

I thought the line "... a come-on from the whores on seventh avenue" in The Boxer was "... a come-on from the horse on seventh avenue". I thought a horse was beckoning them to go for a ride.

My favourite destination was either Argentina or Vancouver, Canada.

Every time I hear the word whores in a song I think the song is saying horse. The only example that comes to mind is Hey by Pixies at the moment though, I keep think they're saying horse in my head.

Are your favourites listed?

Art Garfunkel is much better read than I am. I like reading but whenever I try to sit and do it I feel like I'm suddenly hit with ADD. What piques my curiosity is that among all that classic literature I spotted fifty shades of grey.

It amazes me that he reads books once (or perhaps the list omits rereads?)
I read all my favourites many times over. Many, many times over!

I can't say I've read Fifty Shades, nor would I want to, but it was very popular when it was released.

Do you listen to audio books?

Some of my favorite destinations were Hangzhou and Jiuzhaigou when I studied abroad in China. Both places had beautiful lakes that I really enjoyed.

I do love Pride and Prejudice. Cliché I know but I can't help myself. And I do listen to audio books. I used to read almost every free waking moment as a child but I've somehow lost patience for it as I've gotten older.

Not for a long time but I loved them as a kid , The Jungle Book , Johnny Tomorrow ( narrated by Jon Pertwee ) , Marmaduke The Lorry.

I've never listened to an audio book. My listening skills are really lame. I assume I would lose focus. My favourite part of reading is the scent of the book, the feel of the paper, and going back over passages many times. I have synaesthesia so I love to "see" the words and letters, not just hear them. I even study the punctuation visually to see how sentences are constructed.

The jungle book audiobook by ladybird classicswas our fave too! Also treasure island.
