First i discovered the Family Share feature on Steam as i got a new puter for my sister. Then i discovered that she had to be online to validate the games every time she launched them, having no internet on that box didn't really help.

But i learned that some programmers forgets to add checks for this feature if steam is offline :) so, out of 24 games i downloaded, about 7 worked. Gonna get a 100 MBit cable to mitigate this and get all games running.

i learned my ancient, scratched kid pix CD ROM still runs on my windows 7 desktop.

the installation stops about a quarter of the way through though, perhaps a resurfacing will help?

I learned that there is an urban myth that Rasputin the Mad Monk in Russia was immune to cyanide because he took tiny amounts of it for a long time, gradually building up his immunity, and when they poisoned his food, he just ate it, said something like, "Mmm not bad", and got up and walked away. There's even a song by Boney M. that mentions him drinking poisoned wine and it didn't bother him at all. But it's probably impossible to develop even a tolerance to cyanide let alone become immune to it because it is so deadly.

There are people who have an immunity to poisons like snake venom and bee stings because they've been bitten and stung so many times, but it's still not really a good idea to try it on yourself. This one guy, also in Russia, swallowed things like poisonous mushrooms and other lethal substances to make himself stronger and immune to poisons, but he soon went into convulsions, fell into a coma, and died.

There is a tree in the Caribbean that is so toxic and dangerous there are signs put up on them not to go near them. The fruits on it look and taste just like little apples but very painfully will kill you, the sap causes severe burns on your skin and can make you permanently blind if it gets in your eyes, and if you even just kean against the tree it will poison you.

Still, I couldn't help but wonder how people were able nail warning signs right on the trees without getting themselves killed.

i learned my mucus overproduction may be a way to help the irritation in my throat that comes from stomach acid moving back up into the esophagus because of a weakened valve.

Slow, gradual and incrementing exposure to toxins/venoms can make you immune. Eating everything at once in large quantities wont let the renal system clean the body and death will follow.

Today i learned that you can take an old program, add piecharts and linebars to it and people will be amazed, even though that type of visuals are themselves antiquated

Long story short:

Learned that if you have a good coding idea now, implement it asap. Or else you may develop other features of your program that break when you remember the good idea later on, which turns the good idea into a bad idea since it would cause massive incompatibilities.

So now i am considering dropping the (once great) idea and going out for some ice cream instead :P

Moral of the story: Ice cream fixes everything. :D

Today I learned that the bread machine I've hung onto for 21 years really is a terrible device for baking bread.

9 days later and tinky has learned that California is odd and a little chilly. Also, if all the people who whine about NOLA's humidity wanna move there then go ahead. I enjoy our weather.

I've learned that always following someone else's model for success does not equate success.

I learned my favorite new-to-me singer played a small private concert a couple years ago.
It was their only Northern California venue in forever.
Now they are touring Europe.
It was within a few miles of where I live.
At the house of someone I know.
