Haha, that 'veiled' ending actually intensified it and made it all the more poignant! Truly embedded the impression in the reader's mind...as if it is one's own heartbreak and grief!!
I love your enthusiasm fr it!
My son's nurse (old nurse, she left after my XH tried to get her fired for volunteering to be a witness for me) had a similar (internal) life as Lucy. Different life circumstances etc. but similar in so many ways.
She told me once that she knew for a fact that she had undiagnosed ASD
(which FYI had nothing to do with her life story, the bad situations that were imposed on her were in my opinion entirely her dad's fault as well as her family's. her life story was one of principles, independence, and determination, similar to Lucy's)
Amazing how such women (perhaps you are one of them) rise to the occasion for others, show such noble characters, have high moral code for themselves (e.g. Lucy didn't ever want to complain of her situation or seek out sympathy), even though others do not know how hard their life is.
They still feel the pain, yet adhere to principles. To a degree that others cannot.
As u can tell, I totally love my son's ex nurse. I think she is one of the top human beings in the world. (She taught him to walk by working hard daily, to a degree nobody else did, inclkuding therapists). She has a special power with innocent children, he trusted and listened to her more than anyone even me.
just like how Lucy was respected by the girls. And she had that inner fire/talent (like how Lucy did, e.g. when she did the acting role) of other things too. Very complex just like Lucy. I told her I read a book about a woman just like her.
She has severe fibromyalgia and on so many meds for that too
Living here without family for so many years and sending majority of money to her family home e.g. for her niece's school
No matter what that lady will go to heaven.
