I've been thinking about my future, and I'm more than a little anxious.

I tried to look in the classifieds section in the newspaper, which I've never done before, to see if anyone was looking for a housemate, but I couldn't even find the right section. I could look online, but I'm not a complete doofus.

I keep feeling that it's creepy and wrong to still be living with my parents, especially since I'm in the basement in our new house. -.-

Also, I have no idea what to do with writing advice. Some tell me to look into niche publishing, others tell me to never do that and to self publish instead. Some tell me to start slowly with a book of short stories and poems, others tell me to show off my best work first.

Oh, and I think I have a cold, because my head feels like it's stuffed with wool and moss, and that may be why I'm in a crumby mood.

I feel I don't fully qualify for autism sometimes due to my need to try everything.
Aspies are supposed to not like doing new things.
But I've always suspected I'm ADHD as well so that could be a factor.

I prefer my cards with a short c word on it

How long have you been dx? And there is still moments of doubt? I was hoping those doubts faded

It's usually in "room to rent".
I don't suppose you're on fb, that's where most are advertised, in fb classifieds.
But I don't think it's wrong to live with your parents, that's more societal pressure.

Have you sent anything to a publisher?

Only since 2015.
Think WP makes the doubts worse because you fall into the trap of comparing yourself with others here.
I'm definitely not your typical aspie in many ways.
I've been called "the stick insect on speed"

Maybe it's something people who are diagnosed later in life feel?

If I compare myself to others here I am positively a fraud

I can't even find a publisher that might work, and believe me, I've looked. But I'll keep trying.

By the way, as per Christmas--I mean, Hogswatch--tradition, I'm reading the Hogfather. So that's something good. I just got to the part with the Oh God of Hangovers, and I'm eternally thankful that I've never had a hangover, nor ever will.

Back in the old days, publishers would give feedback and suggest other publishers who might be interested.
Don't know if this happens now.
A very valuable experience would be to join a writer's club, I used to be a member of one.
They will give you a whole list of publishers to try.
I remember they weren't so keen on self publishing.

I think the same. If you parents are cool with it who gives a stuff what anybody else thinks.

I think you're right about being diagnosed later.
Most of us have just had to 'get over ourselves' and do everything every other adult does because it was expected of us.
Those diagnosed in childhood often have had much lower expectations put on them and are stifled in some ways.
Like I couldn't imagine still living with my mum and never having a job or learning to drive or be independent, yet many here are in that situation.

This is the book you want to get:

https://www.amazon.com/Writers-Market-2 ... 440354359/

It's the standard annual reference that everyone uses. I guarantee your local library has it.

Really fed up with Facebook. I have to use it in a business context — I don't use it socially — and it's just an incredibly bad piece of software. Kind of amazing that a better alternative hasn't taken over yet (but they have lock on the market which stands in the way).

Starting a government-funded communications monopoly on a database of people is basically just evil.

I made a list of the twenty movies I'd keep if I could only keep twenty.

In no particular order: The Lion King, Fantasia, Disney's Dinosaur, The Land Before Time, The Emperor's New Groove, Kung Fu Panda, and The Lego Movie, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Mary Poppins, Flushed Away, The Lord of The Rings [I'm counting the trilogy as one], Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, The Cat Returns, Wolf Children, The Last Unicorn, the Persona 3 movies [also counted as one], and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.

But if I could only keep ten...hmm...

I play that game all the time--

'If I could only keep 10/20/whatever of movies/video games/books.'

My mum does it, too.

It never amounts to anything.
