^ thank you. As youve mentioned this is an improvement in computational uses. It has its limits now but I can see maybe in the future we can get a standalone application.

Happy to share it. 8) Yes it's improving with time. I can't imagine ever having a computer big and fast enough to run these things but they're getting bigger and faster with time also. And a lot of the training models are in the public domain so it's not inconceivable that somebody will distribute them for free. I just hope the algorithms will have fewer (or ideally, zero) hallucinations eventually.

You'd be surprised how fast computers actually are. I have a mid range gaming laptop. And just the other day I asked a program to scan my image folder with 10 thousand images. It accurately listed the duplicate files in less than a minute. I don't think hardware is the limitation, It's probably more to do with storage and the need for developers to earn a living.

That's encouraging. As for developers needing to make a living, I suppose they do, but I've always been surprised how often some philanthropist or other creates and distributes something of comparable quality without charging, which suits me very well because I too have to make ends meet, and the last thing I need is to have to pay another monthly fee, which seems to be the fashionable pricing strategy for everything these days, even when there's no good technical reason for it.

I also use free software quite a bit, I think at the moment these for profit companies have developed a product that will take a while for other developers to release. With time I don't doubt that it will be freely available, maybe without the fancy graphics interfaces but still usable. I'm actually leaning more and more to free software these days as I hate the subscription model. Paying monthly for a product that sees minimal updates. I just can't see why some of these products can't just be a one time purchase.

I expect many of them can be a one-time sale, but the makers don't want them to be. Why sell something once when you can get an income stream for years and hike your prices any time you like?

There's an option to change nickname on this forum. It's a different story whether it works, though...

Yeah, it doesn't seem to work.

Changing a username is disabled elsewhere in the (admin) forum settings so no, it won't work.
Just another non-functional thing that shouldn't be displayed. :|

In case you are mixing up username with nickname CF, the nickname is in My account > Profile > Edit profile and is different from username.

Username can't be changed, so it appears as though he's referring to nickname.
Changing your nickname doesn't change how your name appears when posting, even if it displays as changed on Edit Profile.

The ability to change the username (I mean the one other users get to see) could be open to abuse especially if the avatar was changed as well. Might get used to escape from a well-deserved bad reputation. Not that it would always get used for that. Offhand I can't think of an honest reason for doing it, but there might be one (or more).

Oops yes, I read "nickname" as another word for "username" - although, on my profile it's defaulted to the username anyway and a nickname doesn't seem to be used anywhere except on that screen.

That edit profile screen is a weird mixture of cruft and other settings that could be better represented elsewhere.
