was your age (here's the patronising bit) I thought the most important part of great art was natural talent. I

WAS WRONG. Yes you need natural talent, along with the ability to learn from others, take critisism, hard work

bla, bla, bla (all essential but you know that) but the part that matters most is bloody mindedness. Natural

talent withers away in those who lack it because sticking to your art is really hard, and those who have it in

abundance put it into their art and their art becomes better. Of the best artists it's the most bloody minded that

make it. At least this is true for writers so unless painting and drawing is easier....

hard to see the point in not playing the compare game, because, even if you do it, other people are going to do it for you anyway.

everyone always says not to compare but that's stupid, society forces you to do it, you can't avoid it, and it's not like there's enough of everything to go around. life is always a zero sum game.
