Hate crowds so it's usually classical music or live jazz in small venues. I've still been to a few others but it wasn't really the kind of thing that makes people trample each other.

I love live concerts but they have to be indoors. I like the coloured light and the anonymity of standing in the dark.

I don't do outdoor shows, likely because I hate sunlight but even at night I find the sound doesn't carry well and the light shows aren't as intense.

Van Halen, hands-down. I've seen them several times and they're always a lot of fun.

Elton is also incredible. I've seen him four times now including the Farewell tour. He doesn't miss a note.

Garfunkel was a special kind of wonderful because I was front row at The Ryman in Nashville, six feet from him.

It would be a tie between Tom Waits and Nick Cave: both great musicians and electrifying personalities, it's just mesmerising to see them on stage. I would have loved to see David Bowie and particularly Freddy Mercury, speaking of electrifying!

What is/are the musician(s) you like that you also like personality-wise?

I saw Bowie! It was a good show but doesn't stand out the way VH does.

I like Ozzy, personality-wise. I've seen him live too, but I don't remember much of it except Zakk Wylde on guitar.

I like Tom Waits, he's in that class of people I like to call "aliens" - gives me a lot of hope to see eccentric, completely out of the ordinary personalities like that being accepted and loved by the general public.

Does it affect your appreciation of someone's art to know they are/were a horrible person?

I haven't seen Rocketman. I'm a purist. If it's not the real celebrity in a film, I don't want to see it. Likewise I didn't see the QUEEN film which I heard was quite inaccurate. I don't even watch films of Brontë novels!

Nope, I don't care in the sense that I judge the person and the artist as two separate entities. As I say here often, if I would hold artists to any significant ethical standard in their personal life and views, I would have to throw out most of my books and music collection I've probably read too many biographies


How important are efficiency and precision to you? Do you often misunderstand people because they express themselves "vaguely"?

I've never seen a screenplay of WH and nor would I, because I heard it was romanticised. The promos show Cathy and Heathcliff kissing in embrace on the moors, which most definitely is not in the book. I also heard that the second volume is largely omitted, including young Catherine and Hereton. That to me is the only true romance in the book (if any at all).

To be honest, I don't do a lot of biographical research on many authors apart from my crew of faves. I'm sure there are some nasty people whose work I've exhalted, so I do see your point there.

Efficient and precise expression is important to me. Lack of efficiency and precision in one's daily affairs is less bothersome, if they don't interact with me or try to interrupt my own routines.

Yeah, it's better not to know maybe, a lot of amazing writers and particularly classical musicians were huge a***holes.

I have, but it was never a habit. I like the scent of certain cigars or pipe tobacco. We still have a lot of smoking/cigar bars here.
