Due to my unpopularity and lack of exposure on here, I maybe the very last person to post unnoticed.

Nah, I’ll always be here lurking in the shadows, unseen (or at least unacknowledged) but noticing everything. Such is my way. (No, really, people are known to discuss private, personal things with their best friend as if no one else was there, with me sitting no more than a foot away. On a regular basis, it happened at least weekly with my roommate and her friends my first year of college (the only time I was forced to have a roommate). I call it “social invisibility,” I’m seen enough that people don’t try to sit on me or anything, but people usually seem to unconsciously deem my presence as no more important than that of a potted plant.)

I hate to say this but WP is a popularity contest just like the right planet.
Some people get more attention than others. That's why I am starting the Unpopular club.

There are a few rules.

1.Try to notice everyone in this thread.
2. Comment on the post of less popular members.
3. If someone is ignored then try to make them feel better about themselves.
4. If a post is personal then consider responding.
5. Be yourself and don't change to become popular on an internet forum.

This forum needs more emotion and empathy and if makes you unpopular than screw popularity.
I need to start following my own advice.

If you don't follow all of the rules then you will not be excluded.
There will be no club leader. I certainly don't want to lead anything.
All members have social equality. The popular members can join too because they may have no control over it.

I would like to join in this club.

I think I lost popularity because I kept going in circles about the same social issues over and over. But what people don't seem to realize is that the reason I do that is "not" because I am too thick but rather because I feel frustrated about the way NT-s treat me and feel like climbing on the wall. Well, instead of climbing on the wall, I just keep over-analyzing.

But in any case I didn't want to lose popularity over it but I did. So thanks for starting this thread. I hope to be able to finally connect to a few of you. And I will try to act differently on this thread than I do in the rest of WP, just in hopes of having a fresh start.

What things do you enjoy doing, besides your studies QFT?

I like to travel. Actually I like to combine traveling with studies: I might try to find a conference near the place I want to go to, give a talk, and leave few days after the conference is over so that I can explore.

Unfortunately I can't travel too much, its too expansive. But I like to explore surroundings where I am. Again I would combine it with studies. For example I might find a restaurant I never been to before, and study there. Or even take a local train to a neighboring town, find a restaurant in that town, and study.

I hear you, I enjoy it too. I used to take one to three years contracts in various countries because I like staying long enough to familiarise myself with local culture and get to explore things a bit.

What place you've found most interesting in your travels? Or where would you like to live if money wasn't an issue?

What contracts are you referring to? I am confused.

I like exotics. So I was really looking forward to India. But, after spending 5 years there, I got tired of it. I still wish I could go to either Africa or Australia and New Zeland. I never been to southern hemisphere and it fascinates me.

On a totally different note, I wish to go to either Minnesota or Michigan since I did my Masters in Minnesota and I did my first Ph.D. in Michigan and I miss these years. Since I don't have too much money I won't go unless I can find a physics conference to justify it. So I actually found a couple of conferences in Michigan and one in Minnesota the past few years. It was nice.

Back when I was doing my first Ph.D. in Michigan there was Ann Arbor- Dexter road and I went by that road to the end of town and found Coney Island restaurant where I was studying. I really liked it. But I was always wondering what would happen if I were to go by that road further and further and reach Dexter. I never manage to do that, back when I did my first Ph.D. But long after I was done with my Ph.D. and visitted for a conference, I actually did that. It turned out I confused the roads. The road where Coney Island was on, was going to Celsea, not Dexter. But I was right that the two towns were in the same direction. And I actually went to Dexter one day and to Celsea the other day. They were nice little towns. I actually remember that, when I was walking down the street in Celsea, I came up with a new ingredient to one of the physics theories I want to publish. So when I think of that particular concept, I can't help but picture that particular street in Celsea where I first thought of it.

By the way here is another similar wish that I had -- but this one I haven't realized. So, back when I was little kid, in Russia, I was living in Moscow, in the city-proper, but close to its border. It was the metro station Щёлковская (Schelkovskaya). So there was a forest that starts in the city proper, but then it crosses its border (marked by circular road) and then it goes on and on and on and I have no idea how far it goes. When I was a little kid i kept wanting to cross circular road. But, apart from that, I also wanted to cross the forest, too. I once had a dream when I crossed the forest, and there was a lake on the other side of the forest, and I began to drown in that lake and then woke up. So I was wondering ever since whether there was a lake on the other end of that forest and, if not, what is there?

Well, FINALLY my grandma agreed to cross it with me, so we did. But then I had the next dream -- which is to get to the other end of the forest and see where it ends. My grandma never agreed to do that. Then, when I was 14, and I went for a run, I decided to do it during my run. But then I realized that it was getting really late and my grandma is probably worried so I decided to go back home, but then I was lost. And when I got out of the forest, I came to Moscow, yes, but totally different part of the city and I had no idea where it was (back then there were no cell phones so there were no means for me to really find my location). So, after few more hours of wandering around Moscow, I finally found a metro and, somehow, that metro turned out a lot closer to the center of Moscow than where my grandma lived (I believe the metro station was ВДНК, but I am not too positive). The bad part is that I was supposed to put a coin into that metro machine to get in and I didn't have a coin. So I managed to sneak in without a coin and took a metry back home. In the train I met a group of Christians that gave me the tract (I was atheist back then, but I didn't argue with them, I just read it). I then came home -- with a tract -- and it was 3 am. When my grandma asked what happened I lied to her that I was running away from dogs (I am afraid of dogs) so I didn't tell her about that attempt to cross the forest. As far as the tract, I lied that when I finally came to that exercize place in the forest there was some Christian meeting and they gave it to me -- while the truth is that I got it on the train.

Work - I did freelancing for a long time and accepted work contracts in places I wanted to see/live in for a while.

People tend to work on a “contract” basis in Europe and other places not in North America.

I'm not feeling very popular right now because of my German tendencies. Can I join this thread?

I say sure, welcome :) I have a little of a lot of different ethnicities in my genealogy, but I’m more German than anything else.

I feel the same.
There is quite a "Hate Germans" campaign going on out there. 8O

What do you mean by "German Tendencies."
Do you have German ancestry?

I wonder if any one of us unpopular members suddenly left the site anyone will notice? I wonder if we will get a thread about our resignation like IsabellaLinton has, saying how wonderful we were as a member?
(Not saying she wasn't wonderful, I liked her a lot but you know what I mean).

There are few Isabellas out there.
We responded to your post when you were thinking about leaving.
Have you forgotten? 8O

That's because I made a thread, so people read it and replied. But I don't think I would literally be missed if I actually left the forum, despite having posted here almost every day for the last 10 years.

I noticed that the thread about her departing was posted on the same day as she made the last post, and in her last post she didn't talk about her departure. So I am wondering whether

a) She posts several times a day so after not seeing her post for a few hours some people were concerned

Or

b) She sent PM to someone that she was planning to depart and either the person she PM-ed made a thread themselves or they PM-ed someone else who made that thread

In any case, if I were to make a thread that I depart, nobody will bother to reply. So if people replied to your thread you are one step ahead of me.
