i'm glad queer week ended. the queer edition of the weekly paper and monthly student paper really irritated me. they tried to encourage students to come to collective meetings on the basis that it was really apolitical. they used sydney uni as the example of how collectives should not be run. sydney uni is apparently terrible because it has both a social and political queer group. why is this bad? if collective was political i would go. it was the biggest disappointment to me when i realised it wasnt. and they tried to encourage people to go to bars like the stonewall which they reassured us had no violent protests associated with it. why are they trying to distance themselves from the stonewall riots? if it wasnt for those violent protests they wouldnt be able to go to bars in the first place. it just seems ungrateful and also its like they think thats what being queer is all about: parties, bars and things. it offended me.
