I was just about to post this in the thread 'invent an old village ritual' but then I thought, 'invent'.... never mind.
Once a year nearly all the people (3/4) of this more than 800 years old city, called Bergen op Zoom, with approx. 66,000 inhabitants go to the center of this town after dinner, dressed in old clothes, a curtain round their shoulder, a specific scarf and a funny hat. Men, women and young folk. It's an old tradition, where the key of the city is turned over to the prince and he takes over (mgmt).
Fanfare musicians play the trumpet, drums and some other instruments and walk from bar to bar, drinking mostly beer till early hours. Everyone drinks, is loud, cheerful and all trouble is forgotten. This party goes on for four days on end and everyone is acting silly.
All sorts of things are organized. For kids during the day, also dressed up and all is kind of one big ritualistic carousal. Most people of this city and the surrounding villages wait anxiously for this event, i.e. carnival, to take place and one can feel the vibe slowly building up.
This event is actually started tonight and is very much real, every year. Lots of booze, laughter, fast food eating, throwing up, pissing against churches, people having fun and sex in alleys. Twice Erminea was invited and not bad treated or something but now he chooses to stay in it's den. A nest in an old oak tree trying to cover up his ears and praying it will soon be over.
Oh, he is most certainly not against people having fun and he wishes the best of luck to everyone. Truly.... but it just not a good place or an event for a somewhat solitary marten.
Sorry for the sad undertone at the end. No worries thou, I'm cool.... opening up a bottle of wine actually. Cheers.
I know what you mean. Well where I stay there is no such festival, but every weekend I am faced with the prospect of knowing that not far from me, there are others having fun, eating out, and just being young adults/teenagers. I guess for a solitary bloke like myself, you kinda wish eveyone was having fun a little less openly. I don't think I would take part in such a festival that you have either.
