my friend says i speak in a monotone. i thought i had altered my tone in conversation with her. i thought i had it down pat but apparently i sound deadpan, like daria. my other friends say this as well, except the example they use is raven from teen titans. i like having a monotone but i thought i was using emotion.

i think the phrase is a reference to baseball. one steps up to the 'home plate' to bat. a pitcher may not pitch the ball until one has stepped up to the plate (otherwise their pitches are invalid as they cannot be measured against the hitters capacity to hit). to step up to the plate is to present oneself as ready to receive the challenge in store.

amazing how newer product models of cpu's sometimes tend to be cheaper than the older one's which, I always thought it was the other way around..
