Nissan's nigh unto impossible to service engineering. If you have ever done cooling hoses and a water pump on a GA16DE powered Sentra then you know what I mean! Seriously, I have 10 hours in the job and still am not finished. There are six hoses UNDER the intake manifold at the back of the engine bay, all of which need to be accessed from under the car OR with the engine removed. All but two of them need to be removed to get out the water pump, which is also attached to two other housings that also need to be dealt with in order to remove the pump. Oh, but that's not all! No, to get to the hoses, you have to remove the power steering pump and detach the engine from it's mountings and lower it carefully using a jack. Now, on a normal 4 cylinder car, I can do a water pump and every hose in less than two hours. It's not that bad usually. This thing, however, is the car from hell, and I still have to do the front brakes, both drive axles, a transmission service and a rear crank seal.
The funny thing is that this is a freebie job. I am doing it to help out a younger co-worker and teach him to work on cars. He makes minimum wage and there is no way he could afford to do this otherwise. Then again, I do lots of charity work as it keeps me busy and gives me someone to talk to.
