My birth name (in Arabic) means "seeker, scholar, student".
Alex/Alexander means "man's defender, warrior".
Marie/Maria means "star of the sea, bitterness, beloved, wished for child, love".

My birth surname is allegedly of Germanic origin, coming from the name "Bernhard". It's supposed to mean "blessed", but I don't really know.

Quote:
Nikolaos (Greek: Νικόλαος) is a common Greek first name which some believe means " victory of the people", Nikolaos means "victorious over the people" . Composed from Niko (stemming from the Greek word "Niki" for victory a female Greek first name) and Laos (the Greek word for people). In addition, Laos originates from the Greek root "-las", as found in word "λα-τομείο" meaning stone. (In Greek mythology Deucalion and Pyrrha re-created the people after they had vanished in a catastrophic deluge, by throwing stones over their shoulders while they kept marching on). The name of these stones was -"las", and hence " laos " is people. In the Greek language when one wants to denote that they have conquered one says " Niko ". When "Niko" and "Laos" are placed alongside each other one arrives at Nikolaos which means " I win people " or " I win nation ". The connotation is people's champion. Some would even go as far as to say that it means " conqueror of people ". " Nikos " is defined as "a conquest; victory; triumph; the conquered; and by implication, dominancy over the defeated." Another transferred name in which this term is used is "Nicopolis," which is composed of Niko, which means conquest and polis, which means city. Hence, the city of conquest, or city of victory.

my name stems from the greek name nikolaos.

Cynthia : It is of Greek origin, and the meaning of Cynthia is "from Mount Kynthos" or "Moon Greek God". Mythology : Kynthia was one of the names of Artemis, the goddess of the moon (known to the Romans as Diana), referring to her birthplace on Mount Kynthos on the island of Delos. Cynthia was later used by first-century Roman poet Propertius in his love poetry. The English given name was not used in the Middle Ages, but was used in the 16rh century by poets who used Cynthia as a title for Queen Elizabeth I, as Artemis was a virgin goddess of virtue and Elizabeth wanted to emphasize her role as Virgin Queen.
