in world languages "a few thousand" or "a few hundred" is "as good as extinct"

one apartment block can house a "a few hundred" people, to give some perspective. a BIG apartment block can house every native gaelic speaker on the planet :D

norwegian is a TINY utterly insignificant language in its own, w a measly 5 million speakers. compared to that "a few thousand" is as good as nothing.

Aside from English, I speak

....Mandarin Chinese(taught at school before during sophomore)
....Nihongo a.k.a. Japanese(need to learn it so that I could understand my aunt's husband,but until now,I couldn't master it.. :( )
....Spanish
....Filipino(quite similar to spanish)
....Norwegian(just similar to a tounge twister)

You can speak Chinese but no Japanese? Pretty weird

the second one is Japanese..it's also called nihongo :P
I could speak it..

PS:chinese and japanese are really quite different

are you either? maybe undercoveralien thought you were one of the two, and found it strange that you spoke another idunno.

norwegian is NOT similar to a tongue twister.
it is very smooth and comfortable to listen to.
especially trøndersk, sjø.

well,i know it is not a tounge twister but because it is not my native language, I could hardly pronounce some words so it twists my tounge and could bite it sometimes...that's why I usually refer norwegian as a tounge twister :P

Hi guys! It's been a while since I've been on the forums, but this thread seemed interesting.

I've got norwegian as first language (and thereby automatically understand swedish and danish), and consider german my second language because I've lived in Germany for extended amounts of time. I consider english my third language.

Anna-Banana: I was always under the impression that you were danish. I'm sorry! :)

ZEGH8578: No doubt the topic of languages is your field. Maybe it's because we come from such a small country that we need to learn other languages and are generally good at it?

For the scandinavians (or the ones that know scandinavian), this is a video of known norwegian humorists that make fun of the danish language. It's hysterical and I'm sorry if the rest of you don't get it:

This is a funny topic, altough I dont have anything to contribute here but your conversations is amusing!

Kenjuudo!! ! That wasnt yesterday! Not so fancy about WP or maybe too busy with your own life?
Nah you dont have to reply that of course, but its cool to see you!

I watched the link of yours. As I dont understand danish I had to rely on the english speaking...
He had trouble with his bike and said he had to go to the traditional danish....what?! ! I dont understand that word he said for the store he went to

And Anna Banana, are you polish? If so then you might understand ukrainian as polish and ukrainian is as close as norweighan and swedish are as I understood it

The whole point about the joke in the clip is that nobody understands what they say in that shop (not even themselves) because they speak "danish".
