How far can a gun bullet travel?

I dunno, the inventor of the Puckle gun (an early, flintlock-era "rapid fire" contraption) insisted that round bullets be used for christians and square bullets be deployed against muslims.

Interesting.

Interesting that someone back in the muzzle loading flintlock days even dreamt about making an AR15.

And interesting that the rules of warfare would including something like that.

Is being hit by a round bullet really any less painful than being hit by a square bullet? I dunno. Sounds like a question for the Mythbusters!

It was more of a small artillery-piece than anything, intended for ship defense. I don't think any examples made for the alleged square bullets survived (if any were even made), but I suspect that was more of a spiteful sales-pitch than anything. The not-yet US had problems with pirates around northern Africa at the time. I think the idea was that in the event of someone surviving being shot with this thing, a bullet with corners would be a greater source of pain if it remained in the body.

I vaguely recall a firing rate of a whooping 9 shots per minute.

Far enuff to do its intended damage . .
